everyone needs to main goldarmor, also story mode final boss is too easy.

I've been spending quite a bit of time with this game on Treasure Trove, but I felt the need to purchase it separately in order to write this review.
Shovel Knight: Showdown is genuinely one of the worst experiences I've had playing a video game. It has the depth and balancing of a 2008 Newgrounds fighter and is an embarrassment to the Shovel Knight brand.
As a decade long fan of the series I genuinely cannot express my disappointment enough. Any excitement from being able to play against friends as unique NPC characters is overwhelming dampened by the games lackluster controls and nonsensical game design.
I wish Yacht Club well but after King of Cards launched it feels as if the teams quality standards have started to decline. To go from such all encompassing, creatively designed DLC's to..... this is genuinely baffling.

if you are going to buy a shovel knight game, i recommend this one first (unless you want all of them, get Treasure Trove) This game gives the feel of each playable character and even others. great couch co op game aswell.

Wonderful game from YCG. Great graphics, movement is very fluid, would love to see online or Showdown 2. Would recomend to anyone who enjoys Smash or other fighting games.

This game is very fun, the characters are all very fun and unique, they all have a lot of care put into them. They really keep their original games style so it feels like your playing like the original character. The only complaint is that the difficulty in the story for some characters is all over the place when you choose a difficulty higher than easy, but that could just be me.

The simplest platform fighter that no one plays. I really hope more people play this in the future.
I have >130 hours of this game on switch btw

Fun, for a while.
This is probably the first fighting game I've played and I really liked it. There are a lot of customization options for fights you can play with your friends or with A.I.s. The characters were fairly easy to learn and I loved the feeling when I finally stumbled on a good strategy for them. My skills with the characters with campaigns in Treasure Trove carried over well and, once I got used to blocking, I could use my favorites to mop the floor with the other characters.
However, there are some irritating balancing issues in story mode once you unlock enough stages. Sometimes you will get stuck on a small stage with three opponents who (if multiple of them happen to have a large attack range or speed) can repeatedly mow you down and you have no where to run. I know that this is a stage problem because I defeated Shield Knight's story on hard mode early on without an issue, but once I unlocked a bunch of small stages, I had random difficulty spikes ruining my runs.
There is also Percy's target minigame, which is always part of story mode, but does not seem to work well with every character. It is especially tricky with King Knight because his shoulder bash forces him into a spin jump, which does not destroy the targets quickly enough in most cases. His other moves (roll and bomb rat) are either too risky to pull on the platform without falling off or are too slow to be useful.
In all, I enjoyed this game and I would recommend it to fighting game new-comers like myself, but its flaws really undermine the experience after a while so purchase with cation and expect to probably have the best experience playing with friends.

To put it simply, unless you know someone who is willing to play this with you (Because online multiplayer is nonexistant) I would recommend not buying this game because story mode is poorly designed, while shovel knight has garnered acclaim for its design, Shovel Knight Showden is clearly infested with an even worse degree of Fighter Game Final Boss then most.
Don't Believe me?:
1. The 'minigame' the store description advertises fails to mention that It isnt actually a minigame, It's MANDATORY to progression, If you fail to achieve the score goal you lose a life. The Point of a minigame is to have it be like an optional objective or a game within a game, you dont HAVE to complete it, but it gives rewards if you do. The Minigame is Poorly designed, with flying chicken giving the same amount of bonus time as an APPLE (And chances are chasing after the turkey will cost you MORE time then it gives), And Respawning doesnt actually take 10 seconds off your timer, It takes 12-13 seconds because the minigame has delayed respawning (FOR SOME REASON.).
2. Stages with infinite Lives Enemies, Its clear This is kinda trying to be super smash brothers with its simplistic movelist (Nothing wrong with a small and easy to remember movelist may I add.), However Super Smash brothers story mode has never had infinite lives enemies, And it can make Treasure bashes annoying because the enemy can yolo you out of lives at no consequence to themselves. If we have limited continues and lives so should the enemies in story mode.
3. And Finally, the point I find is the MAIN reason I have to give this game a Not recommended Review, Is that the final boss is truly stacked against you. Not only can you deal it no damage but every attack it has Can Take gems from you. EVERY ATTACK, I am not kidding, even its bullet hells count as Gem grabbing, And there is actually NO WAY to take away gems from the enemy because the minions it spawns do not drop gems. And worst of all is the fact you have limited lives on this and the enemy gives NO BREAK so you can Lose by the Gem Taken Victory Condition or just get killed to death (And Believe me it's easy to get killed). I havent been able to get to 15 gems but I wouldnt be surprised if it has a phase 2 and 3. Oh and the cherry on top? It's bullet hell not only takes the gems but leaves you a nice bomb as insult to injury
I would recommend that you dont Buy this game, Its a nice concept and a universe I think many would love to duke out in as their favorite characters, But it has been poorly executed in many ways.

This game is amazing. I'm not good at writing detailed reviews, but I'm just gonna say I love it. All of the characters have their own unique style and are fun to play, and it has a nice mix of stages. Overall very fun, and well worth the wait and the eight-month delay.
