The game has janky controls, bad audio, and bad optimization. I wanted this to be cool, and the trailers made it seem so, but I am disappointed in the end product. It looks, feels and plays like a cheap asset flip game in every regard. I can't bring myself to care about the story, and the terrible animations, character models and voice audio make it that much harder to pay attention or care. The lighting is terrible, sometimes it's so dark you need a flashlight and then a few seconds later in an area that has no lighting, such as a vent or isolated room, it's somehow bright enough to not need your light anymore. The tasks are repetitive and boring, not to mention that there is a lot of running back and forth between points, or obstacles that should be easy to move or go around that need long detours to pass, in what feels like a cheap attempt to pad out run time. The asset models are low quality and poorly detailed, some areas have obvious attention given to them to stand out and others look slapped together just to have a room for you to be in. The controls were odd, you could stop movement mid air and frequently had to jump over small obstacles that your character should just be able to step over, as well an being unable to walk up some ramps needing you to bunny hop up ramps instead. I could only bring myself to play the intro at Chernobyl and Pripyat before my tolerance for poor quality was gone. I genuinely wouldn't recommend you play this game even if it was free, this was a waste of my money and time. TLDR: The game fucking sucks, don't buy

This game definitely had tons of potential. its not horrible to play but its clunky and there are elements that are explained present and then never used and others never explained at all. First act was fun then it trailed off after that. got got it on sale at 50% off but definitely don't buy it at its retail $25.99

Not as interesting as the promo video. Kinda confusing going from the reactor fires to random errands. It does have really good graphics and I liked how they spoke English but had Russian/Ukranian accents. Although some of the voices were very off-putting. The Babushka voice was just weird.

Acts 1 and 2 are genuinely fun, capturing the experience of first responders at Chernobyl with a simulation-like feel. Act 2 deepens the narrative by adding background to your character, while Act 3 continues the evacuation theme but slowly introduces some odd gameplay mechanics. By Act 4, the game shifts into a full-on stealth mission with radioactive hallucinations—this is where I ended my playthrough. The game seems unsure of its identity, yet I still appreciated the first three acts. Despite running smoothly overall, it’s quite buggy, with dialogue and cutscenes that feel disjointed. I really wish they had stuck to the simulation approach of the earlier missions. If a mixed option were available, I’d choose that, but I still recommend the game for its strong start.

Way to many game breaking games for a completed game and feels like a complete different game once you start chapter 2 but in a bad way.

This game is from the Story a really good game but there are some sections where the performance is kinda dying

Lots of invisible walls, plus you get stuck in the invisible walls. Not enough direction on where you're going and what you're doing. Overall the game is cool concept and Chernobyl is an extremely interesting topic, but the extra hoops you have to jump through just to not die, get stuck, forced to load a save game, figure out where you're going... they're just not worth it

Unfortunately the first section is the most interesting, but doesn't last as long as you'd like it to. There are a lot of bugs including game breaking ones, janky movement, dialogue heard from a mile away, not enough autosaves, some boring and repetitive gameplay in the later sections. There's more issues but it's honestly a lot. I hope there are updates coming to address these issues but I would've expected game breaking bugs to have been fixed by now. If you're looking for a similar game, I recommend Liquidators even though it scares the shit out of me

Some games entertain. Some challenge. And some leave a mark that lingers long after you put them down. Chornobyl Liquidators is one of those games. It’s a deeply unsettling experience that captures the brutal, hopeless reality of the Chernobyl disaster’s clean-up crews—men sent in to die, shoveling radioactive death off rooftops with no real hope of survival. At its best, it delivers a harrowing, emotionally effective look at the liquidators’ experience, but at its worst, it frustrates with unclear objectives, clunky mechanics, and repetitive gameplay that makes the player struggle for the wrong reasons. The opening sequence is one of the most haunting I’ve seen in a game. You play as multiple liquidators sent to clean up the radioactive wreckage—only to die one by one in the process. When you take control of the next worker, you see your previous body right where it fell, a grim, powerful reminder that you are not a hero—just another disposable cog in an impossible task. The horror isn’t monsters or jump scares—it’s the inevitability of death. It’s a moment that sticks with you, the kind of storytelling that makes you pause and sit with the weight of what just happened. The sound design reinforces this dread. The music, which feels practically lifted from HBO’s Chernobyl but still works, adds to the tension, making each step feel like you’re walking into a death sentence. Unfortunately, after that brilliantly executed intro, the game’s mechanics start getting in the way. The gameplay is repetitive—find a fuse box, clean radioactive dust, follow unclear waypoints—which could have worked as a thematic choice, showing the mindless, grueling reality of the job, but it’s not implemented well enough to feel intentional. Instead, it just feels like bad game design. The poor waypoint system is particularly frustrating. At one point, I spent ten attempts just figuring out how to start climbing a building—not because of difficulty, but because the game does a bad job of telling you what to do and how to do it. Right now, I’m stuck trying to turn on fuse boxes with no clear indication of how or where, and it’s the kind of frustration that breaks immersion instead of adding to the experience. This is where I’m torn. The atmosphere, emotional impact, and historical weight of Chornobyl Liquidators are genuinely well done. It’s the kind of game that sticks in your mind long after playing—unlike something like Sniper Elite: Resistance, which, while competent, doesn’t leave much of an imprint. But the actual gameplay? It’s a chore. And that makes it hard to outright recommend. If Steam let me give a sideways thumb, I would. As it stands, this is a game I’d recommend with major caveats. If you’re someone who values atmosphere, historical accuracy, and emotional impact over tight gameplay, this might be worth the frustration. If bad mechanics and unclear objectives kill your enjoyment, then this might just make you rage quit. Chornobyl Liquidators is an important game, but not necessarily a good one.
