I paid money for this, and no matter what I do my DLC doesn't work. This franchise will never get a dime from me again.

If there is one DLC that I recommend for "Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain", it would be this. I got it on sale for cheap, so I had to check it out!
If you have beaten the game, prepare yourself for some high intense battles because they literally are sending everything at you. And now the Kaiju can control your armed vehicles to go at you and man, it gets intense. I love it!
And even more levels where you can collect a ton of gems and use close contact weapons.
The additional weapons and gear is like the cherry on top of this awesome DLC!
But for the price you get on sale and all that it comes with, it's so darn worth it! Highly recommended!

Adds some new maps, re-uses some old maps, has 14 new missions, has some cosmetics, some new bosses and enemies. One new vehicle is interesting in its mission. Can be successfully used in another one, but is mostly pointless otherwise. There are some new weapons including very cool crossbows. Instead of being electric guns like before, they are kinetic weapons with arc and three-stage charging. The storyline retcons some stuff about the rebellion making them entirely good guys.
The missions are harder and require much more deliberation on the loadout even on normal. Going in after finishing the main game on disaster provides new challenge and rewards with new weapons to tackle this difficulty. Almost all of the maps are very satisfying, even babysitting the drill in the tunnels. But the final mission on disaster is a casino. It's really hard and hardly fair. Playing it solo is trying your luck, not your skill. There's no cover, it's just a small empty desert square, there isn't even enough room for your flying vehicle. You can be one-shot ganked at different points by the scorpion-bosses. And in half of my attempts, the tiny ants just carried me out of bounds of the small map and didn't let me back until the game is over on time-put. On my winning run when i once again reached the final stage with very few enemies remaining, they did that and i was ready to just die. But on pure luck godzilla kicked me back into the map area and killed most of the ants. So yeah, godzilla helped me to finish Ex14 on the disaster.

A good addition which offers more levels and weapons and has much more challenge due to its new enemy types. It could have been a bit more inventive in map usage and used its 3 part narrative to better effect, but generally, it is good enough to keep you playing.

Mission 9 on: high thumbs down
A lot of lazy levels start out this DLC. You will find too many of "throw you in the middle and surround you". But it gets worse when you get to mission 9.
From mission 9 you are introduced to the Enemy AI vehicles. These are by far the worst things that have ever been in any EDF game....or one of them in specific. The freezing ones are bad...but the electricity AIs are absolutely frustrating. This is a target that hits and knocked you down in a massive circular. Now if you survive it, as soon as you get back up...before you can react...you will be hit again and knocked down. Not to mention you can't see anything on your screen except flashes of yellow everywhere....per each one. Imagine if you have 5 or 6 going off across the entire map!
And even if you aren't caught in the unforgiving electricity storm, have fun taking them out when it happens. You will have a general idea where they are but have no way of telling if you are actually hitting them while they constantly fire electricity in a massive area with no break....EVER.
If it is not lazy...its cheap. You don't need this DLC.

"Man, stun mechanics in video games are so much fun" - The devs probably
While I enjoy the base game, this DLC brings all the bad about Iron Rain to the forefront. The new enemy types are the main offenders of this. The 4 enemies in question are the Golden ants, the Golden Queens, the laser tanks and the mechs.
-The laser tanks will fire a continuous beam of energy that will basically make you flinch constantly, making you unable to sprint or use your PA gear while they drain your health away. If you get too close to them, they will also release a blast of energy around them knocking you down and doing an INSANE amount of damage.
-The Golden Queen fires out a barrage of energy orbs that linger and have the same effect as the tanks, also draining your PA energy making it so once you get out of the flinch stun, you dont have enough energy left to do anything.
-Golden Ants will knock you down if you let them get too close.
-The mechs shoot out a barrage of ice rockets that home in on you and freeze you in place.
The first 2 on their own arnt that bad, but when you combine all of these enemies into 1 mission you just have an incredibly frustrating experience of being knocked down, stunned, frozen in place and drained of health before you even have a chance to do anything about it.
I will say tho that the best thing about this DLC is the new Prowl Rider mount. It is definitely the best mount in the game.
A decent expansion to the main game
This is what I want to see in DLC, namely an expansion which adds NEW content as opposed to so many other DLCs in games these days which are basically microtransactions and/or content hacked out of the main game.
You don't need this to enjoy the main game which already has a satisfying conclusion. However if you finished the main game and want more, this will give you that.

This DLC adds new weapons, new enemies and a cosmetic version of trooper. Also a few hats.
I can't recommend this as the new content doesn't add much to the game.
The new class is just trooper without a PA gear. Unless you really like trooper and don't want a visible PA gear this class has no value for you.
The new weapons are decent, but no better than the weapons from the main game.
Except for the new bow. The bow is probably the best weapon for striker since it has no reload. But it doesn't work for prowl rider since it disables the grappling hook while charging.
Also the new dual wield pistol doesn't work for striker, since all of striker's weapons are dual wield.
The new vehicle is meh. It has a cool concept, but doesn't really serve any role and barely has a use.
Also all weapons and vehicles still have to be purchased to be used. So the new rank AA weapons will cost you 800,000 like usual. So there is a grind as per usual.
The new Prowl Rider mount is probably the strongest mount in the game. It has the most health and damage of any mount.
The missions are more difficult than regular Iron Rain missions. To some degree, the swarms that are common in EDF 4.1 and 5 are back in the some of the missions, but because of Iron Rain's mechanics it is very difficult to beat these missions without cheesing it.
Overall this DLC is just more Iron Rain with some missions that are like the main series EDF. Unless you REALLY like Iron Rain there is no point in purchasing this, since the Invisible Trooper, Mount and Bow are the only selling points. Everything else is pointless.

Honestly the dlc provides an good range of interesting weapons and an new mount for the rider which is insanely fun to use, I found the dlc missions overall fun and quite an nice addition to the game with the new units that appear within its mission.
I don't under the overall negative vibe that people have forwards to Iron Rain and this dlc, while it isn't fully an EDF game. It still is an fun game on its own and the dlc still highlights that with its intense combat.
