Game with great visuals and some bangers in its soundtrack, that thinks being overly annoying is the same as being difficult.

If you enjoy 2D action-adventure games with a post-cyberpunk theme and a magnificent pixel art, then this right here is the game for you!
P.S. If you're looking for a real challenge, I recommend playing in the "old-school" mode of this game.

Game should have a warning about a controller being basically required. The game is MADE for a controller, makes for a very bad experience otherwise

I wanted to give the game more of a chance but I literally couldn't bear it anymore.
I only lasted about 50 minutes. I started out exploring the "East" zone first, so maybe I just happened to pick the worst zone in the game. But it was agonizingly boring and tedious. Your movement speed is UNGODLY slow with no dash or movement options at all. Even if they doubled your speed it would still be too slow IMO. This isn't helped by the fact the the areas in the game seem to be massively oversized for absolutely no reason at all, filled with nothing but empty space for you to slowly navigate through, and enemies you can pretty much completely ignore.
I really wanted to at least make it to the 1st boss, but it was literally so boring I couldn't even force myself to play any longer.
Visually the game is pretty great, but holy hell the player speed is way to slow and the level design was terrible. If you do decide to give the game a chance despite me not recommending it, I would strongly suggest you AVOID starting with the "East" zone to increase your chances of enjoying it. Because who knows, maybe the other areas are incredible. (Though I doubt it)

I first saw this game at PAX East 2019 and loved the few minutes I played of it. I'm not an over ambitious gamer so I didn't opt for "old school" hard mode. The difficulty was perfect for me and I enjoyed taking the weekend to play it. This game is too new and too indie to have any guides but there is a a drone you can get to help you find all the hidden items if you get stuck. The music is great and the art aesthetic is awesome. They avoid having the numerous baddies feel repetitive by offering several different designs of the same style bad guy/gal. Can't wait to see what else this group makes!

This is an exploration, action rpg, pixel art, and 80s inspired music. This is a solid game that focuses on exploration, puzzles, and combat. It is a good game.

It's a decent action-adventure game. The puzzles are pretty easy overall and the combat system is basic, but it's still enjoyable.
I did often find myself frustrated at some elements of the game, and i think it's best to know about them before you play:
- The game has multiple endings, but the "normal" ending is not really an ending at all (it's a short conversation with a single NPC that leads to the credits). If you want a "real" ending, you'll have to 100% the game. I don't see why the normal ending was included at all considering that even within the game's story it doesn't really make sense.
- The environments look nice, but some passageways that you HAVE to go through are not really made obvious and i think they're really easy to mistake for scenery, especially in the junkyard area.
- The game has a hint system but it seems reluctant to let you use it. It's insanely pricey (some main story quests require you spend money, in addition to buying healing items), so if you're stuck and need a bit of help you'll have to farm for money, which the developers have made more difficult in a recent update.
If this sounds like stuff you can put up with, then Neon City Riders is worth the price and the dozen or so hours it'll take you to beat. I think it ends on a really strong note too, which made some of the more tedious aspects of it easier to swallow.

Neon City Riders is such an amazing game. Having gotten both ending and a 100% save file, I can confidentially say that this is one of my favorite games now. It has a classic story, of beating the head bosses of 4 different gangs. But what separates it from others is the background story of the characters. Apart from the story, the gameplay is amazing and everything I hoped for it to be after viewing screenshots and trailers. It is an RPG game that plays a lot like old 2D Zelda games, but with new abilities and twists. Since this game is set in a cyberpunk world, there is some very cool futuristic abilities that help you solve puzzles, find secrets, and aid you in combat. The gameplay is fast-paced at combat sections and more slower-paced at puzzle sections. The combat is very balanced and the abilities it gives you do not at all give you that "overpowered" feeling. The environments and territories are very fun to play in, and look amazing. They really do a good job of setting this world into the far future and cyberpunk age. The only problem I have with this game is very minor and almost never happens. Sometimes the combat can feel unforgiving, but in only one way. There is very rarely sections where too many enemies are present, and can make you feel like the only way to take them out is stand in the middle, tank the damage, and press attack. Although it rarely ever puts you in that situation, it is annoying when it does happen. Other than that one complaint the game is great. I do wish it was a bit longer of a game, but it still is quite lengthy. If you want to 100% the game and story, do all the quests, and get all the achievements, you could probably squeeze about 15-17 hours out of this game, which is still very good. I think the price is perfect for the game, and the $16s I paid for the game when it was on sale is a great bargain. Overall, I give this game a 9.5/10!

The graphics are gorgeous, the game loop is smooth, and "Neon City Riders", being polished all around, definitely feels like a labor of love, but unless you can appreciate arcade adventures with all their issues (tedious delivery quest chains, fights based on "one mechanic per one enemy" principle, and so on), the game can easily become a chore. The game is cool and all, but I decided to drop it sometime during the first half.

I enjoy this, flawed, yet interesting game. It isn't the action game that the trailer misleads you into thinking it to be, that it's a beat'em up. When, in actuality, it's a quest, puzzle solving & jerk you around game with dialogue issues. East should be West & grammatical errors which should be addressed. The music within the game is good & on certain stages it's really good. There's plenty to do & outfits that can be changed in to for some flare. I like it but it's not what was advertised.
