Bring the challenge of maneuvering tight spaces with stunning visuals and very calming music!
Played this a lot in beta and loved it even at that time. Now it's fully polished with nice visual clues for level progress and guards for shortcuts. Oh and there are so many levels.
The easiest difficulty is probably least realistic flight model as your boost from rigs does not run out that fast, but it's a good way to learn a level and base controls. Would recommend playing on normal+ as soon as you can.
Definitely worth a try <3

Was a bit confusing/difficult at first but after only crashing a few times it got easier. It's still not smooth but I'm guessing I'll learn that with time. It looks stunning, it manages to both be calming and challenging. Occasionally you'll have what feels like an unfair death but they're really rare (or more likely you just flew badly). If I have any gripe it's nitpicky like the menu not reacting in real time which initially confused me whether I clicked the right thing. I can really recommend it; it's simple, it's beautiful, and it owns it :)
Almost finished with it now and I stand by my word!

Extremely difficult but extremely fun game. For the price, 10/10. Difficult games with simple controls are something of a favorite of mine, and this hits that quite perfectly.

Re-Revised Review: This game is excellent and the difficulty levels do make a difference, however level 3 on "Very Easy" still involves a long tortuous twisting tunnel of rings, and if you miss one icon then you don't unlock the next level. So I guess it's using a [Dark Souls = Easy] scale. Just for reference I completed first 2 Pilotwings games with mostly perfect scores, here I reached level 5 on "Very Easy" but doubt that I will get much further. I will try to complete level one on "Normal" so good value for money really.

An absolute nightmare to control. I got many hours on professional, highly realistic flight simulators including gliders and high performance vintage aircraft, flying them into and out of difficult, confined situations. I think I really got the hang of virtual flying, but this game? Impossible. No tutorial, no place to get aquainted with the flight characteristics. Already the 1st level is frustratingly difficult and I fear it will throw off many potentially interested players.
The beautiful graphics can´t compensate for these shortcomings
One of the very few games I asked a refund for.

The trailer video must be showing the game on the easiest difficulty, which is basically just free flight. The glider shakes out of control if you go too fast, the physics are weird as hell and the flight dynamics just don't seem right. Refunded/10

As someone who has one of these gliders in real life, the physics are nearly perfect. The way it slightly wiggles when you move the elevons is very accurate. This is for Normal difficulty; Hard is basically impossible. It's likely that at least 1% of the 1.7% of users that apparently completed this on hard cheated the achievement. It took me 2.7 hours to get through the game on Normal.
I did this on a controller, and I don't think this would be enjoyable without an analog stick. It's not like Superflight which was made for mouse control. I would say a controller is required.

A Glider's Journey is really good. Definitely worth it for the price.
I really hate to give this one a negative review...
There are definitely some good things about this game, like the concept, level design and the colourful low-poly aesthetics which I personally like a lot, but the real downer for me is that you have to pick up 'Boosts' to stay in the air, meaning you have to follow a predetermined path in every level (which can also be far from 'relaxing' as advertised), or you have to switch to 'Very Easy' mode which keeps you in the air indefinitely but also makes you fly permanently at a constant speed. Meaning you can't manually accelerate or decelerate in this game.
Really? A game about flying, without the possibility of using gas and brakes? That's not too much to ask for, is it? (Granted, the game is called 'A Glider's Journey' but why is your aircraft a flying wing with an engine then? That's contradictive.) Or am I just missing something here? (Couldn't figure it out in the Options menu, either and that wasn't even the fault of the badly highlighted UI choices.) And why is it that the Audio is muted to 50% by default?
Then there is no replay value here whatsoever. There are no scores you could improve on, no leaderboards and no timer. So no Time Attack based play modes here, either. Basically, all you can do is unlock all stages, that's it. Nothing else to gain. If the game was still in Early Access I wouldn't mind all these imperfections but for a game that's supposed to be finished it's not very polished, at all. Yes, it states in the description that it's simple but since when is 'simple' an excuse for an unfinished game?
And did someone even test play this thoroughly? There are levels where you can end up in an infinite loop by being out of Boosts and falling off the map where you manually have to restart the level in order to proceed... Let me give you another example: If you crash your glider (aka flying wing) on the ground, dust clouds emerge along its trail. The same dust clouds appear even if you crash into water. This contributes to the impression that this game has been developed by beginners, and / or hasn't been properly tested. Either way, it leaves a bad aftertaste in your mouth and spoils the overall experience.
The soundtrack isn't exactly bad, but it appears to be a bit too cinematic and pompous for this type of game, so in most levels it just didn't fit that well and seemed out of place. I also find the game's title at least kind of misleading, 'A Flying Wing's Challenge' would be a more accurate fit (not only due to the difficulty), but that's just my humble opinion...
Another downer is the missing feeling of freedom which I expected to find here after playing 'Superflight' for a while. Regarding the controls I'd like to point out that they aren't that far away from a 'real' flying wing RC model, which admittedly can be hard to get accustomed to. At least you can turn difficulty down to 'Very Easy' to get used to the handling.
But still... This game is just not very good at anything. (It actually feels more like a tech demo of Unreal Engine's physics simulation than anything else...) Even if you compare it to the old SNES classic 'Pilotwings' from the early 90s, you'll notice huge differences in quality. And a huge difference in 'fun'. The latter is almost completely absent in this game, and is something it should definitely be improved on. (For e.g. by making the glider not crash when touching one of the rings you are supposed to fly through.)
I really hope the developers are still working on this game, it has so much potential.
But in its current state I just can't recommend it whole-heartedly, even if you can have it for an affordable price...
3/10 Looking for alternatives again.
Pretty nice glider flying game, not easy at all, takes some practice to get the hang of it. Definitely a fun challenge!
I've only played it with an Xbox 360 controller and ended up adjusting the horizontal sensitivity down a tad, this should help you a little if you're finding yourself over steering often.
It's definitely worth $5 if you enjoy a challenge.

Before I start: This game does not feature a seizure warning, but it does use a stroboscope effect twice. Additionally, some levels feature effects that will induce vertigo in most people. Be warned.
-----
A Glider's Journey is a game where you control a glider through 15 levels. In each of these levels you have to collect all the boosts on your path, and then land on a pad that turns green.
The game looks gorgeous, and you sometimes forget that this game is built from low-pylogon elements. Controlling a glider is fun, and getting to know how a glider operates is interesting. The game features several difficulty-modes, where on "very easy" you control a glider-shaped projectile that does not really obey any laws of physics, and on "easy", "medium" and "hard" your glider becomes an actual glider that becomes more unstable the harder your difficulty. As such I recommend to play at least on "easy". The music in this game fits the game and the track that plays in the background describes how you journey through the level. However, the music is generic and repetitive, especially condidering you will be replaying the same level over and over again in trying to complete it. You will hear the same 20 bars at the beginning of a track an aweful lot of times. The achievements for this game do not challenge the player in trying something new or interesting, but are rather a crude statistics screen for the game developers.
I have been thinking about wether or not to recommend this game, and in the end I decided that I can't in good concious recommend a game I have no fun completing. There are several reasons for this.
- The game does not feature any quick-save/quick-load or checkpoint system. This means that you have to replay an entire level if you miss one boost, or mess up one hard part.
- The level design in this game puts hard parts after an initial journey of 50-70 seconds of easy flying. This means that to retry a hard part, you have to redo that 50-70 second easy part. This is fun the first few times, but doing it over and over and over and over again makes it become boring.
- The game likes to throw an unexpected curve ball right at the end of the level which, if it catches you off-guard, requires you to replay the entire level once again.
- The game actively punishes the use of a low sensitivity on your arrow keys/wasd/joystick, as the game likes to throw in loops where you are unable to complete the loop unless your sensitivity is greater than 1. Simultaniously, having fine-grained control over your glider is paramount in keeping it stable, as drooping one of the wings will make it go in a slow down-ward spiral.
- The game does not provide any tools or information that helps you figure out what you did wrong in a run of a level. For example, one of the levels features a tunnel. It's easy to loose control of your glider in one of the sections, but most of the times you failing that section feels almost random. Addition of something like an artifical horizon would go a long way in understanding what happened, and being able to prevent it in the future.
- The way this game creates more difficult levels is to create longer levels with more hard parts, where each hard part you fail will send you all the way to the beginning.
Some of these you can mitigate to some extend. For example, the problem with sensitivity of keys can be mitigated by switching between mouse and arrow keys, where the mouse has more fine-grained control. However, the combination of all these points makes completing the game a chore where you brute-force every level rather than something enjoyable where you feel like you are improving. For the same reason, I do not feel this game has any replay value on harder difficulties.
In the end it is hard to argue with a price of €4,-. I had fun playing the first 7 or so levels, which will net you one to three hours of play time. Just don't expect much more out of this game.
