Just finished playing this on my Youtube channel (link at end of review for anyone who wants to see a gameplay sample before buying). First thing to note: I remember playing the original Commandos 2 when I was a kid, back in the early 2000s - and I also recall never beating it legitimately, because my younger self was too impatient and didn't have the attention span that Commandos games typically require. So it was good to come back to this game, specifically this HD remaster, and actually beat the game properly as an adult! The game has ten main missions (plus ten bonus levels, unlocked if you can find a number of red books hidden in each of the main levels). If you've played other Commandos games, then you know what to expect here: you have a team of operatives in the Second World War. Each one has their own abilities and skills, and by utilising these, you fulfil a series of objectives. To the original roster of commandos characters from previous Commandos titles, Commandos 2 adds a couple of new ones: the Thief (fast, can lockpick doors/containers etc), and the Seductress (basically a lite version of the Spy, who sometimes acts as a stand-in for him). The missions themselves are all really fun, though bear in mind that some of them are pretty big - such as missions 2 and 9. In most cases, each mission will start you with a set of base objectives but then more will be added as you go long. On top of that, Commandos 2 also has a great diversity in settings for its missions - a good chunk of them are set in the Far East/Pacific theatre, which makes for something nice and different to the usual European theatre settings you see in many WW2 games. Other than those points, the OST is great, the remastered visuals are generally fine in my eyes, and the remaster retains all the various, creative game mechanics of the original. So on the whole, the Commandos 2 HD Remaster is well worth buying and trying out, especially if you're a fan of the Commandos franchise. However - there are some negatives that you do need to bear in mind. Unfortunately, on a technical level this remaster isn't perfect. Don't get me wrong - it is generally fine and playable. However, during my play-through I did encounter a few glitches. For example, on a couple of occasions one of my commandos' inventories would glitch and certain items would get briefly stuck. Also, I noticed that throughout the game, certain sound effects didn't always seem to play correctly. On at least one occasion (mission 6, as I recall) there was a slight glitch that occurred when the body of a dead enemy who I'd taken down earlier suddenly seemed to stand up again, momentarily confusing me. Then, finally, in mission 10, there seemed to be a glitch where the tracks and turrets of tanks/armoured vehicles weren't animated properly (though they otherwise seemed to function as intended). Altogether, none of these are game-breaking - but the sheer number of them does lead me to the opinion that this remaster would have benefited from some extra polish before release. Other than that, however, I did really enjoy the game - it was a good blast from the past. So despite the technical issues mentioned above, I'd still wholeheartedly recommend it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Idqd3lLoTBk&list=PL05Yc3_TEBpN98hUmSgQo7Gm7Ltg6qES1&index=37
