a fairly simple and for some childish game but with a soul. the experienced player will understand how the story will go, but despite this fact the game provides very strong emotions. plus the music/melodies are great and very heart-oriented. there is no winning end here, or achievements just the story of life. play it

Nordlicht is a short point-and-click game, with stunning visuals, in which a little girl and her father sets on a journey in order to find her mother. Even though the game has a childish artwork that works really well with the game atmosphere, the game has much depth behind the scenes. I strongly recommend to those that likes emotional stories and good gameplay.

Pros - Game is very beautiful, lovely art-style, nice music. - Puzzles are simple but enjoyable. There is also a kind of sailing mini-game thing that might not be to everyone's taste but does add a bit of variety to the typical inventory based point and click puzzles. - Sweet and poignant story - Well written dialog - Show hot-spots tool. Cons - Moving is very slow - No graphical, audio or game-play settings. - The inventory interface was kind of odd in that you had two different views, Its almost as if they realized late on in the development that the original horizontal bar design was problematic for combining items since you can't scroll so they added a vertical menu as well (although not sure why they just wouldn't have added the ability to scroll.) Or maybe they game is also available on mobile and its something related to that. Regardless its a bit weird but not too much of an inconvenience. - Game is very short but in fairness I think its reasonably priced for the content. - There is some minor bugs but also there is a major one at the end; if you open the time capsule then the game gets stuck and you can't continue. You need to control-alt-delete, kill the game and start over from your last save. - No Auto-Save (would have been really handy for when encountering the time capsule bug) Overall despite the problems I had fun playing it. Just remember to save often. Recommended.

Cute game with a nice story. I found it odd she called her dad by his firstname but her mum was just mum, but apart from that it was a nice story if you're in the mood for a breath.

A very nice point & click adventure game. The art design is great to look at and experience, it's one of the unique aspects of the game. The story was well presented and narrated: if you are an adult playing this game you'll understand what the story is about early on, but this does not detract from the experience. In fact, I think they presented the topic in a heart-warming way, that a mature mind can appreciate. The music was an excellent fit in helping to frame the mood of the game. The difficulty level of the puzzles were appropriate I think, for what the developers wanted to focus on. Mechanically the gameplay worked smoothly, no issues. Some of the gameplay mechanics surprised me, in a positive way, things I didn't expect to do in a point & click game. I hope to see more from this developer team, and perhaps to see more of Aurora in the future.

Wonderful sound and art, but so infuriatingly slow. Not to mention whenever I'm on fullscreen mode, there are certain objects where the options disappear immediately upon clicking them. This gives me a deal of a headache for objects that are required to interact with. The unskippable cutscenes I can tolerate with, but some overlaps with transitioning (e.g. seeing speech bubbles popping even during a cutscene, the cutscene text being visible while I play) is not a pretty thing to look at. What could've been a good game is marred by unpolished design and the player's test of patience

Personal Rating: 3 of 10 Game is alright, when it works. Nordlicht is a rather short and straight forward game. There are only 3 short chapters with a simple timed clicking puzzle in between. The game tries to tell a touching story of family by giving you glimpse of past memories. The puzzles in each chapter is nothing extraordinary, just plenty of clicking and exploring as the game hasn't got much to offer in the first place anyway. Movements and dialogues are pretty slow so I would take it as a casual and relaxing game. The problem with the game is that the story isn't very engaging and its too short to actually get into the characters or their background. And, to add on to that, the game is real buggy. Not sure about other issues but towards the end, you are suppose to view some pictures but I cannot exit the scene and proceed. Tried every buttons and the scene locks out even the escape to menu. The arrow to back out is there and hovering the mouse cursor plays some sound but its not clickable. Tried several times and gave up. In short, this game can pass if you would like to spend some time with kids but it is really too short and simple for one to enjoy. The only plus I would give is the art style which is really great.

PROS: + sweet story + relaxing soundtrack + pretty art style + talking guinea pig CONS: - very short game time - alt+tab issues - some unclear gameplay elements - for some people the boat mini-games Comment: Nordlicht is a sweet little adventure game. It taps into the old school mechanics of point&click games with an interactive inventory. It is nice to look at due to a charming art style. However, sometimes this style does not clearly show what areas are accessible so it is best to click around to explore. The UI is nice and smooth with a main inventory and a secondary inventory window to combine items. A small flaw might be the hand icon for all interactions, which is not clear right away and so moving between areas does not make that much sense with this icon. Some gameplay things are also unclear, like when talking to Peter/Rupert at a specific place gives new options. This could have been highlighted by an exclamation mark or a comment by them. As any good adventure game you solve puzzles, collect items and talk a bit. The story spins around Aurora, Rupert and Peter the talking guinea pig. Well, talking might not be the right word as the game has no voice over, it is all just text. This does not take away anything from the characters or the story though. There are three acts but overall the game is really short. The helper magnifying glass shows what items you can interact with, for hints ask Peter or Rupert for dialogue. I found myself enjoying it even though the little girl stares into my soul when I stop ordering her to move around. Using Alt+Tab and going back does not give you control of the mouse on the first try, you have to Alt+Tab again and then click on the game. It clearly is some sort of a school project game but with a unique charm and a low price. I can easily recommend it to adventure game enthusiasts. ------------------------------------------------------------------ If you liked this review you can find more on the Curator page or in my Review Corner.

Not a whole lot of recent reviews, so I'll post one. This is a very nice short story/game. The pacing is slow, and even with that, this will take you ~2 hours. I would only recommend this game when it's on sale because of that. Nothing is too difficult in the game, it may even be geared for kids (although you would have to read quick on some cut scenes and there are some grammatical errors). All and all it's a pleasant and relaxing experience, no rush (in fact, it may be a little annoying if you're in a rush). Anyway, I experienced zero bugs or problems running the game on Win 10. I did limit the frame rate to 60 fps, just because I do that on these point and click games.

Short and sweet point&click adventure with a heartwarming ending. You can finish the story in about 2 hours, assuming you don't get stuck on a few tricky puzzles. There are 3 different locations to explore, a couple of nice cutscenes, and one timing mini-game. The artwork is really good considering the price, the stylized aesthetic gives it a unique look, not to mention its enjoyable soundtrack. I should note that the narrative is kid-friendly, you not going to find any hidden jokes in this one, even though the story has a sad undertone. The puzzles were reasonable for the most part, just keep in mind that you can occasionally solve the riddle by interacting with another character. As expected with a cheaper game, it's not as responsive as it could be, but it still has a decent interface that allows you to highlight items using 'tab' or magnifying glass in the corner. However, you could potentially run into saving issues; I did not lose any progress, but the game required some fiddling with input to remove the black screen upon loading (only one save slot).
Pros:
+ beautiful art style, detailed levels + decent soundtrack + enjoyable lighthearted story
Cons:
Saves - I was lucky enough not to lose any progress, but the game was loading in a weird way. If you see a black screen, don't assume that save file is broken, you might be able to unlock it eventually by clicking around or using alt-tab twice. I would not be surprised if someone got a corrupted save. Lack of Polish - the game occasionally fails to provide description of an item or an action, granted it does not happen very often. When the item does not work I always want a confirmation of 'failure', otherwise i am trying to make sure that I clicked on the right spot.
Overall Thoughts: 7/10
As far as adventure games go I am not particularly impressed with this one, but it left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling at the end. Whenever a game squeezes any emotion out of me, I consider it worthwhile, especially at $5.
For more Hidden-Gems: http://store.steampowered.com/curator/31294838-Hidden-Gem-Discovery/
