Flux Reviews
FLUX is a Fidget game. A Typing game. A Beatemup. A Rhythm game. All glued together with a beautiful cyberpunk world, tons of cosmetics and the dialogue of a long-distance relationship between two people in a world torn apart.

Beautiful visuals and evocative music combined into a unique experience. I really like how it alludes to wider world through character interactions and would love to see the setting explored in more detail.

Flux is a relaxing experience, a visit to a neon world. I enjoyed this game the most as a way to lose myself for a little while, typing away as a meditative break in my day. There are 'goals' you can set yourself - get better at the optional combat, buy different customisation options, or finish the story (although I can't say the story was too much to my liking). Either way, if you need a break from our world, Flux is a good contender.

Flux is mostly a narrative experience, but there are several mini-games that you have to play to move the story forward. Please note that game uses adobe flash to play, which is a little unusual when it comes to Steam releases. The actual meat of the game is the dialogue that you have with your lover over the phone, and the mini-games work as a time-lapse that unlocks new conversations. I don't particularly like any of the games, they just don't have any gameplay depth aside from giving currency that you can use to buy cosmetics and a few active skills. I initially wrote a negative review because the game had many side characters that had nothing to say. The latest update added dialogue progression to those characters, I think you can even unlock a few hidden items if you complete certain tasks - the world building and overall value of the game have improved significantly as a result. However, if you expecting some hack&slash experience (I certainly did), save yourself $6 and find something else, the combat here is bare-bones and offers nothing exciting. What we have here is a game that has some positive elements when it comes to atmosphere, story and soundtrack - a niche experience for those that enjoy a narrative being told in a slightly obscure way (probably not for everyone). While I enjoyed most of the dialogue in the game, I wish the developer would make the ending a bit more satisfying, perhaps it should include a playable area, similarly to how you explore the town.
Pros:
+ enjoyable atmosphere & soundtrack
+ interesting way of telling a story
+ many unlocks, a few secrets
+ several mini-games
Cons:
- very little gameplay depth (if any)
- controls were a little strange
Overall Thoughts: 6/10
I still feel like this might be one of those guilty pleasure games for me, it's a little hard to recommend. However, I think some people might enjoy it for its weird qualities, being different and doing something unique. Perhaps the execution was not great, maybe it could use another few months of work when it comes to actual gameplay, but if you looking for a story driven game, it's not completely hopeless.
