This game only has up to go! And I mean that in a good way. As time goes on and more people start playing, matches will be easier to find, and more content will be released. With at least 6 more characters on the way and who knows how many stages, this game is in it's baby stages, and boy is it a beautiful baby.
I highly recommend buying in now as the devs are wonderful about listening to the community and how they can best meet expectations from all sides. This game will thrive off of its community for which I see a very bright future for.

Slayers for Hire has a lot of potential for growth, and even in this early alpha it's already a blast to play with friends. Its characters and gameplay feel unique next to other platform fighters like Smash, Rivals, and Slap City. Definitely keep your eye on this game!

(disclaimer: this game is in a much earlier state than most public early access games. its jank, its unbalanced, and it doesn't have a lot of features, but these will very likely be fixed in future updates and i will be updating my review as major changes come along)
the gameplay is very fluid, fast and fun. the 2 characters available at the current moment (slugger and artist) offer very unique takes on the genre, the animation is very fluid for such an early build, and the stages look good.
the game is burting with potential and if youre willing to put up with a little alpha build clunkiness the game is hella enjoyble

Ive played alot of platform fighters, from Project M to Brawlhalla to Rivals, not to mention vanilla Melee.
This is game has some really solid movement mechanics, as well as great sound design (and its still early access so these things will only get better too.
Pros - Movement feels great, if you are a melee purist of course you will feel weird but if you've played rivals or PM you should be fine
cons - only two characters but it seems like that roster will have at least 4 characters before the end of summer

Just started playing this game. Very well built and polished game that in some aspects the mechanics feel like SSB melee. Very fun and creative alternative game with art and detail that stands alone as a fun way to have some really fun combos. So far, highly recommend.

Early impressions: diamond in the rough. If you play Rivals, Melee, or Brawhalla and have a friend, great give it a try 100%, it is free and has roll back netcode. So far it has cool combo routes, a deep air dash cancel mechanic, and unique characters (from three). Some issues I see is the shield mechanic, while not inherently bad, feels strange, more so how little lag the "dodge roll" from block is, and also just a strange choice to have special moves and smash attacks combined.

The game, in the short time I've played it, is fun, but it's not without some issues. I play on keyboard and I found the controls somewhat lacking in terms of accessibility. Some things I put together was the following:
-In order to walk, you have to either give up your ability to dash (Left and Right) or holding down then the direction you wish (DigitalLeft and DigitalRight).
-Not only is there no way to turn tap jump off (except with Up), you can only do full hops with DigitalUp.
-DigitalDown will cause you to fall through platforms no matter what and regular Down won't allow it.
-The nondigital directions of up, down, left, and right have a weird feeling of slowness about them that you have to hold a direction for a certain amount of time in order to for an attack button to register as that direction.
Overall, the characters are fun and do show promise, but the experience is currently geared towards controllers and not keyboards.

We need more solid platform fighters like this.
Feels crisp, netplay is good too. And I love the creative movesets.
I don't like, however, the lack of full movesets for each character. The devs claim it's to avoid having useless moves, but if you're played Melee or any game like it enough, you'd know that even trash moves have their place sometimes, and allow for even more creativity.
Having multiple inputs perform the same attack also feels unintuitive and even a bit confusing.
I think it's a way for them to get out of extra animating, which I can't blame them for, but I'm still not a fan of the decision and think it's antithetical to the creative and expressive nature of the genre.
This used to be a positive review until I tried playing it again and the aforementioned decision to neuter movesets felt even worse than before.
That said, we still need more good platform fighters so I still support it and hope Slayers succeeds, but I don't see that happening without some changes.

There isn't much yet and it's very rough around the edges. It's very much a low budget indie game. But it shines in the most important aspect - the gameplay. It feels incredibly smooth, it is accessible for newer players without compromising the learning effect. This game is an absolute blast to play with friends, and the netcode allows almost seamless online matches. The developers are also very active within the community and take feedback seriously. It has already come very far since the Alpha and Beta builds.
If you enjoy Smash Brothers casually and want to try out something new to play with friends, buy this game.
If you enjoy Platform Fighters competitively and want to expand your horizons on what is possible within the genre, buy this game.
If you want to support a small indie dev team that puts all their effort into their game, buy this game.
If someone you know tells you to buy this game, buy this game!

This game has a really unique philosophy related to projectiles. They persist and have all different kinds of interactions with your character to explore. For the money, you get a quality online lobby system and two characters with very fun and distinct mechanics to fool around with. PLUS you get to support an indie dev.
P.S. WAY BETTER THAN ICONS.
