Simple throwback to a simpler time, minus all the screen tearing. Fairly short game that can be completed in a single setting, it offers a challenge whilst still having neat modern additions like unlimited lives and automatic checkpoints where needed. Thoroughly enjoyed it, highly recommend.

Enjoyable Megaman-like with fun power ups, smart level/boss designs and some banger tunes. Recommended.

I really like about 40% of this game. There's certainly a niche among Megaman die-hards that'll love Alphaman in spite of its flaws. Annoying aspects of the original Megaman titles - limited by inferior hardware - don't exist here. The speed is markedly improved. Some of the platforming puzzles are fiendish in very clever ways.
The things I didn't like but wouldn't count against the game are the shortness (only 4 bosses), clunky menus, minimalist animations, and sometimes baffling art design. I forgive those, no problem.
My objective criticisms have to do with the mechanics, which work for me just short of a majority of the time. Wall-jumping feels great until you have to platform with it. Dashing I immediately forgot I had. Maneuvering levels doesn't feel good, like there's too much gravity pulling you down.
Those criticisms are small in number, but punishing in scope. These core mechanics make or break a game in this genre, and for me in Alphaman's case, it's more the latter.

Nice little megaman clone. You can beat it in 30 minutes on your first playtrough. It's good fun for the asking price.

A very fun megaman clone. Level design is very solid, and the abilities you get from bosses are fun to use. The bosses have interesting and unique patterns, some being very challenging. There's also a fair bit of replay value, if you want to challenge yourself and get the tougher achievements
(or alternate ending)
I definitely recommend it if you're a fan of 2D platformers, especially ones on the more difficult side!

A Megaman-inspired Kaizo that's visually smoother and more slippery (in terms of controls). Music is great, foes and stages are fair and distinct, but some platforms are very precise and the save checkpoints aren't well spread out.
There isn't a tutorial for the player to learn how Alphaman controls, if you started the game blind and without reading the description, you wouldn't be remiss to know Alphaman can use his special ability without using his power, if you longpress the "x" button. You can also dash by holding shift.
There's a handful of secret stages you can access if you're agile enough, earning yourself a variety of keys that each increase your special power capacity.
Balance is a major issue though. The first filter point is fighting the first boss without any notable special ability, but as you beat the bosses you unlock an ability from them. The become significantly easier once you get the Maid's broom, but certain bosses go down easier if you use specific weapons such as the firebomb, the flamethrower, or the knives.
At the end of the game, you're tasked with fighting all four of the bosses AGAIN, one after the other, with no checkpoint inbetween. After beating them you get a little XP, but not a whole lot. That means if you die, you have to start all over. It's a major "filter" point considering the enemies aren't any weaker in any way.
This is a short (1-3 hours) game that's arguably worth the 5 bucks, for all the genuine and heartfelt effort put into it. The pain points are the trial and error, learning enemy patterns, and the very difficult back-to-back boss fight at the end. But even with these shortcomings, it's still a very aesthetic game.

Alphaman at it's base is a pretty decent megaman inspired game. There's fun to be had and it can definitely give that itch if you really want megaman. I think there's just a lot of small annoyances that end up hindering my enjoyment of it unfortunately. The level design is alright usually, though in the maid bot level it really has issues with not seeing ahead (and there are a lot of enemies that will just fall onto you. Enemy variety can be a bit lacking as well. The two issues I ran into a lot are the lack of coyote time and unclearness of how to tackle some of the later enemies. Some of the minibosses don't really feel clear on what attacks are even doing anything. I also feel like half the new attacks are just kind of bad in this game? The Knife feels like it does almost no damage, and doesn't even seem to hit some airborn bosses, and the holy molotov is so specific to set up it doesn't seem to be worth it? I never even figured out what boss is weak to it. If it's fire man I sure didn't gather that from the no damage the weapon does.
What ended up really making me frustrated is the last boss. It's the classic thing of jump on the hands and then you can attack it, but there's three issues. First, the hands don't stop on the ground so you can't really tell where to stand to get on it. Second, the hands can just fly you into the bosses hitbox and immediately knock you off when it's going back to the normal position. Lastly, the boss is immune to normal bullets, which is fine except that instead of like making a noise to suggest this, the bullets just don't hit the boss? I thought something was wrong because of this.
It's not all bad though, I do actually like the change made to how special weapons work in this versus normal megaman. Instead of overtaking your bullets, it's a secondary attack. Plus the best part is when you run out of ammo, you can use a charge shot instead of ammo which is honestly a great idea.
I'm really mixed cause I did have fun for quite a bit of the game, but it just ended up dragging down as I did the last couple stages. I think if you want a megaman game it might be worth a try but just kinda know what you are getting into.

Bought this hoping for a megaman clone, but this game lacked the fluid controls, endearing characters, or graphical flair of the original. I played the game on Ubuntu Linux, with a gamepad controller. No technical issues.
