Herald of the Depths is a fast paced, quick fire retro rogue game with crunchy 8 bit graphics and tons of secret stuff! Interesting character creation Procedurally generated world 1 floor per screen, no scrolling! Easy to get into and hard to master Each play through is different Classic Rogue gameplay Lots of things to interact with Deeper than it looks! Herald of the Depths was covered by myself and my friend ToborPrime in our Game development/industry podcast - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYkBcsFK298

For $1 this traditional roguelike is actually pretty good. It has a lot of features that you would expect in a more advanced game. There are some minor starting perks that will also change the appearance of your character, although the bonuses are not very significant (I think the dev should expand on them). Its positional gameplay has a lot of depth because you have 6 spells and several consumable items. Some of the attacks can even interact with the environment - setting the grass on fire or shooting explosives. It also adopted a few modern features such as chests with 3 different bonuses. Even though the game looks very simple, it has a nice variety of unique enemies, stage-specific traps, side quests, and a couple of different environments. Overall I think this roguelike is designed very well, I just want to see more achievements.
Pros:
+ nice positional gameplay + starting perks + good variety of mechanics + achievements
Cons:
- no fullscreen - no controller support Overall Thoughts: 7/10 It packs a lot of roguelike features for such a simple aesthetic, much more than I expected for a $1 title. If you don't mind that kind of art style and the lack of fullscreen, I think the game can be fun to grind for a few hours. I would like to see more achievements with higher requirements, just because it's so fun to keep going.
