This is one of the best hack n slash game I've ever played. Pros Cute MCs - The difficulty is at normal for all modes, not too hard not too easy - All the achievement is... achievable i guess, not unlike any some games that requires 1000hrs++ to get certain achievement - All the modes are challenging and fun to make you want to play more and more - Runs at 60fps even with low end pc as long as it's above the minimum requirements - The special skills of each weapon is unique in all MCs Cons - The monster and item repertoire is low - The story is very vague because it's so short, almost non existent - Some of the item effect is unclear - Theres only 1 setup when you play aside from the communication mode, a circle that will spawn monster, which is kind of boring in the long run - The normal attack doesn't change no matter what weapon you yield, only the special skill will be different Even after all it's downside i'd say this game is very worth it for it's price, unless you bought the first one

Did you ever play the challanges in Devil May Cry? This is it as it's own game, you're pretty much fighting waves of enemies on plattforms with some bullshit excuse of a story inbetween. You kill enemies, level up, collect new weapons, upgrade the weapon power by using them, collect coins and unlock costume parts that slightly improve your abilities. Pretty simple overall. The way the game plays slightly changes depending on your character, like the way weapons are used or if they break. Pretty solid and challenging Hack 'n' Slash and Rogue-Lite? with a cute art design.

Croixleur Sigma - Deluxe Edition is a straightforward, fast-paced hack-n-slash action game where the focus is about beating the timer and high score. The controls in this game is really simple and are configurable. Your character has an attack, special attack, jump and dash actions mapped to the face buttons. There is also a burst to get out of pressure and a secret tech which is your ultimate attack. Battles take place in a small arena and monsters spawn in at intervals. Every mode involves clearing a floor and moving on to the next in a tower - which does get kinda repetitive like Shoot'em ups. When choosing your character, you get to equip up to 4 weapons (bound to the 4 face buttons) which have unique moves that you can activate by holding the L1 button (default) and hitting the corresponding face button. Alternatively, you can chain special attacks by hitting the special attack action which will execute all 4 one after another. Where the game really shines imo, is its fluid combat. Because you can instantly dash cancel out of any animation, in the air or on the ground, controlling your character feels tight and responsive. You'll be dashing around from one enemy to the other and evading their attacks. Dashing, special attacks and burst requires a resource called MP which refills very fast when you're idle, this pretty much allows you to dash around the arena all the time. However, as difficulty increases as you progress, enemies move faster and hit harder; so if you carelessly dash around without regard for MP conservation, you will get mobbed - the game is actually pretty hard on Normal difficulty. Weapons are unlocked as you progress through the tower and your choice of 4 weapons play a huge part in how effective you'll be in combat. There are also accessories that give you passive buffs which you can purchase with coins you collect, and these are also significant in your combat effectiveness; you can equip up to a maximum of 8 accessories and the slots are unlocked as you buy more accessories. You start with only one usable character and the remaining 3 (one after another) are unlocked as you complete their respective story modes by beating the timer. Despite having a Story Mode, the story in this game is almost non-existent and certainly is its biggest weakness. Surprisingly, it has Japanese voice overs and I must say, they are quite well done. The game does come with other gameplay modes like Survival, Score Attack and other unlockable ones like Extra and Challenge modes. There are other non-gameplay modes which are kinda underwhelming and I'd rather not waste time on them. =P Presentation wise, the game does look pretty good. The UI is simple to use and the character models, albeit simple, do look pretty cute and the dub makes it even more so. You can change costumes for your characters and accessories do show up as... well, accessories. There is an interesting mode called Communication where you can interact with the characters. So if you've grown to like them, this mode might be of interest to you. The music in this game is mid and I've yet to find a single track worth praising; it is definitely serviceable though. In terms of performance, this game runs very well and the boot up time is very fast even on HDD. If I had any complaints about the game, it would be that there's no co-op (which I think is a shame) and no Steam Cloud. Overall, I think this game is a really fun game if you're into action and beating high scores. The action, albeit simple, does require some player skill but isn't as strict that feels unapproachable. It's offering might be basic but is quite polished. I strongly recommend getting it when on a 70% discount.

Scummy practices: When this was released, the original game had [OLD EDITION] prepended to its title and was delisted from Steam, rudely making my purchased game an ad for this low-effort cash grab. Refunded.

New monsters, game modes, weapons, characters, and cosmetics to my favourite hack'n'slash game - what a lovely surprise to see this on steam

Croixleur Sigma has extremely simple area layouts (by which I mean one, a large circular platform), exceedingly basic enemies, and you can complete the game in less than an hour. That's the bad. Croixleur Sigma has extremely responsive controls, buttery-smooth movement and ability cancelling, and a collection of abilities for each character to chain together into custom combos. It isn't the most extravagant action game in the world, but I feel like it accomplishes exactly what it sets out to with incredible flourish. Despite the barebones environments and enemies, this game feels and plays more like Devil May Cry. Sure, you may not have the progressing ability unlocks with the same amount of depth, but it's a rewarding game to learn how to play, and both looks and feels great when you know what you're doing. You can finish a run in less than an hour, but there's actually quite a bit to still do in the game afterward, between unlocking and mastering swords, seeing the perspectives of different characters in small story segments, and optimizing both speed and scores. The hardest challenges in the game do a good job pushing you to really learn the system, and I like that a lot. Between the "cute" anime aesthetic and gameplay that will feel most at home to hardcore action game fans, though, the ideal audience for this game is probably quite small. On top of that, you also need to be able to enjoy a game for its mechanics and character design alone, because the areas and enemies aren't anything impressive. If you happen to fit into that fairly small range, though, this game is incredible. I realize a lot of people reading this are unlikely to share my viewpoint, but if you do happen to be at the cross section of all those areas, Croixleur Sigma legitimately feels like something special, a true hidden gem.

Extremely boring. You fight the same like five enemies over and over and over with little challenge and no real incentive.

Imagine the "Bloody Palace" mode from the Devil May Cry series, but with cute anime girls as playable characters, collectable currency / weapons / perks and a Story Mode.

This quick review is for those who own the old version of Croixleur Sigma and are wondering if this new one is worth the upgrade: If you enjoyed the old version and would constantly replay it to level up your swords and see different endings, the answer is yes. The graphics have gotten a fairly complete overhaul (see my screenshots here and here for a comparison), as well as the sound effects, plus there's a handful of new features. The most prominent of these are the two additional characters, but there's also equipment/cosmetics and a dungeon mode. Lucrezia's special attack is now a lot more impressive, and I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true for Fran's (haven't unlocked her yet). And of course, since Playism is the new publisher, the translation is new as well. I'm looking forward to playing some more in the weeks ahead, and may revise my review later. For now, though, I'm finding this to be a worthwhile remaster. Revision #1 (11/26/19): Since I first posted this review, I unlocked Fran and played through a round as her, plus bought and equipped some of the cosmetic items on both Luc and Fran. First off, I really love the addition of these costume items-- not only do many of them look cute, but they provide various effects (speed boosts, additional coin drops, etc.) that makes the game a little bit easier than before. This is a welcome addition for more casual Croixleur Sigma players like myself, and can be safely ignored if you're more the type who's up for a challenge. Going back to Fran for a second: her newly revised special attack is indeed impressive as well, though I feel that the camera is too close to her at the moment that it actually unleashes. I've unlocked one of the new characters, but haven't played as her yet. Unfortunately, I won't be able to play some more and update this review again until December at the earliest, so I hope that I've convinced owners of the older version to cash in their coupons before they expire. Once again, if you enjoyed the original version of this game, this new one is definitely worth it! Revision #2 (12/20/19): Added links to the comparison screenshots. Also, since the last update, I've played through the Story Modes of both new girls. This is where new enemies start showing up, and their dungeon runs are both longer and more linear. Of course, there's also some new story elements. I've also played around with Communication Mode a little. It's basically a place to interact with the girls outside of battle. It's not really my sort of thing, but maybe it is for you :P Still happy with my purchase, looking forward to playing more, etc., etc.
