there is only one word for this game.... STUNNING ! ! ! my fave total war so far withought a doubt. for some reason the older ones are better lmao. 100/10 would recomend you spend money on this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the most amazing Total War titles in the entire series. Only problem? This is when SEGA became the heavily involved bloodsuckers that they are and ruined the development. This game was vastly improved with Darthmod after being released with an insane amount of bugs. To top it off, once you get to a certain turn number, the game will crash no matter what your PC specs are or whether your playing any other mod or vanilla. This is due to the game engine being new at the time making it tough on devs and SEGA not investing int long term play from the quick, shorter play-loop success of Shogun 2. It's an amazing game with Darthmod for the amount of time you can actually play it before the end turn crash bug, but I wouldn't recommend paying over $10-$20 for it. Vanilla is crap. CA & SEGA owe us a proper Empire 2 instead of releasing cash grab garbage.

Very easy to get sucked into 'one more turn'. Research into how fast you advance compared to other nations, how specialized, is very fun and telling. This is my favorite Total War game. It merits a remaster or Empire II.

Great game, darth mod is a must. I'd love to see them return to historical games but GW prints money.

Come back to this every couple years or so and I'm just now noticing how much it shows its age. I am usually able to finish a campaign or two before moving on to the next game in my library, but the clunkiness of some of the battles (sieges and town battles) really got to me this time. That being said, I do recommend this game, especially if you can find it on sale. There's just nothing quite like it. The global scope, the naval battles, lots of great mods. You can sink a lot of hours into this game before you start to see the small stuff that frustrates you. ***Please play this game with some type of overhaul mod. DarthMod, Imperial Splendour, and Empire 2 are all good ones.***

For those new players who are curious about why their campaign always crash in a certain year and there is no way to fix it: This is actually a memory overflow bug caused by Indians training too many units. The only way to fix it is to occupy India as soon as possible. If you want to save your file, the only way is, find something like wemod and order your troops to India, turn on God Mode and start annihilate them.

I've played the majority of Total War games, and Empire is the one I always find myself coming back to. As many reviews have stated, the global scale, the naval warfare, and for me the broader appeal of the era of black powder warfare; all exquisite. The game is quite old and the cracks in the facade are starting to show, and as such a mod like Darth Mod or Imperial Splendor is a must. (I tried Empire 2 and found it clunky and lacking personally) Overall this is still my favorite Total War game, and would heartily recommend it to anyone interested in the era depicted. Though with it's age, be sure to buy it on sale, as it can be had for cheap often.

Played for few hours recently but, there is a bug in the main campaign. The game crashes when pirate ships are moving on the map... Even if reload the game it still crashes. I tried doing it multiple times...

If you like history. You will like this game. Alittle old but hey people drink old fermented grapes and they say it tastes better with age.... this game very good. Highly recommend 10/10.
