Can't really say if the game is good because this port is a bad joke. The UI uses keyboard keys for instructions even if you're using a controller, and the in-game instructions that tell you to press x button to do y action are just missing the button that they should be indicating entirely. There's no proper fullscreen option; the game can only be set to borderless window by pressing alt+enter, and any time you enter the options menu it sets itself back to windowed mode. Getting to the first point of selecting a square on the map has it instantly jump off to a corner of the map instead of where your character is, which is probably because it's badly detecting the mouse's position even when playing with a controller. Animated cutscenes stutter like crazy and have bad lip syncing and voices that sound like they were recorded with a 14 year old Xbox 360 headset, yet the voices outside of animated cutscenes don't have that audio quality problem.
Translation seemed alright in terms of faithfulness from the small amount I played except for the decision to localise honorifics despite the game's setting and aesthetics which was just dumb.

Very fun tactic RPG with interesting characters, well designed map and easy to grasp but difficult to master job and skill system.
Though the story borrows a lot of character from Japanese folklore, the story here is original. That's not a point against the game, just a warning in case you want this game to have the Japanese mythos explained to you. The story here is very good, well told.

A pretty fun Strategy RPG.
An interesting collection of characters, enemies and strategies to optimise your party. While it's easier than the more traditional strategy RPG's such as Final Fantasy Tactics, I'd say it's a good place to start to try games of this style.
The general gameplay loop of missions, side quests (requests with specific objectives such as protecting an NPC, defeating a boss) is good enough to keep you interested and the overall difficulty ramps up around mid game.
It can also can be picked up pretty cheap, play it and enjoy =)

Excellent game. It's a modern Final Fantasy Tactics without the Final Fantasy. Same mechanics, same job system with fun, different takes, an okay story (so far, 46 hours in).
If you know and like this kind of game, this is a great addition to the genre. If you don't know, there are several modern takes to look at - this would be a fine intro, but you can/should play Tactics as well at some point, if not now.

Units all have 3 mobility. Enemies unfairly outnumber you. Map design is an uncreative mess that gives Fire Emblem Gaiden a run for its money. The entire game is a stupid grindfest which requires no strategic thinking whatsoever.

Recommended for fans of tactics games and RPGs.
+Art style, anime cutscenes, music
+Story, tactical battles
+Job/class and skill variety
+Mix and match jobs, earn XP for 3 at once
+Fully voiced (Japanese only)
+Setting/lore
+Mouse support
-Slow/grindy, leveling best on auto
-Subpar AI
-Cut content (English voice in Switch/PS4, not this version)
-Dated graphics
-No key rebinds, some awkward controls
-Lack of dev support/few updates ("we'll fix it in a sequel")

Quick review:
God Wars, is a very interesting take on the tactics jrpg genre, there is a lot of common and familiar elements, such as jobs, height effects, skill, but there is also, a lot of additions, such as aggro management (with things like skills, which increase or decrease aggro), way some skills and effect work, which make it quite unique and charming, specially given the theme and setting. The music is amazing.
It is a good port, not many options, but runs very smooth.

A Final Fantasy Tactics style game set in a fantasy Japan setting. It incorporates a lot of traditional Japanese folklore.
The gameplay got extremely repetitive. The classes aren't very well balanced and most enemies are just reskins. Despite the long runtime the main characters are also poorly fleshed out. Save your money and invest in a Switch so you can play some Fire Emblem instead.

Here to keep in mind
So far I've finished 15 main stages and 10 optional quests, I play on HARD difficulty, and I use Ookami's necklace and earrings for bonus JP (Job Points to buy skills)
Pros:
- I love how this game act like an MMORPG where you need to have a tank with draw aggro skills, healer to buff your tank while the rest do the damage (obviously you don't need to do this if you're overleveled).
- The class system is similar with FF Tactics with more freedom regarding your passive skills. Ex: you can add jump+1 and move+1 to make an agility themed character while in FFT you can only add one of them since both use Leg slot.
- I love the difficulty level. My party is usually get destroyed if i'm being random lol. Which means i have to make sure that i have a balanced classes combination (healers, tanks, support, attackers, etc). Also MP management, it's quite scary when your 2 members get KO-ed and you realize that your healer don't have enough MP to cast a revival spell. Make sure you stock on items too.
- Beautiful soundtrack
- Beautiful artworks
- Beautiful animated cutscenes
- All of the lines are voiced
- A lot of sexy and cute girls!!!
- large bosses whose size takes 3x3 grid space! These bosses can also summon reinforcement which can turn "we can do this!" situation to "oh, shiiieeett!!!" situation. It's fun!
- The enemies really make use of the skills that they have, so expect a lot of unexpected moments (evasion skills make them almost untouchable, heal skills wasted all of your previous effort, poison make like your enemy has another team member). Don't forget that you have lots of skills too so use them. In this game you really can't rely on 1-2 skills alone, lots of skills that seems useless might surprise you.
Neutral:
- I think the game will be even more fun if the amount of items that you can carry into battle is limited
- I love story taking place in ancient japan with all the gods and mythical beings!
Cons:
- The 3D models are too low poly

I have a policy to play and finish all games I buy. Occasionally I find a game that makes me rethink my questionable life decisions like this and God Wars is one of them.
The story is a combination of badly connected events, one-dimensional characters with erratic behaviour (especially our protagonist) and terrible cliché. There are about 30 characters and the game has no idea what to do with them. You might think that the queen of a nation, Amaterasu, will be an important character but no, she appears in two scenes, a flashback and then the plot forgets about her existence. There are several other non-playable characters who appear in one scene, give you plot item, kick you out and never appear again. Your party members are not treated any better. They get an introduction, join you for strange reasons, speak few lines and that's it. Maybe someone needs to learn basic logic and writing lessons before embarrassing their own mythology.
I rarely critique Japanese voice acting but this game is generous enough to provide me a reason to do it as well. Generic male enemies make a roar for every fitting occasion, like healing, buffing or throwing a pebble at your characters. Generic female enemies produce such obnoxious voices (I would expect more menacing battle cry from a toddler) that listening to them again and again slowly drives me insane. Fortunately, "skip scene" option partially shuts them up. There are some voice actors who sound so bored. Just listen to the excitement of the store owner who set up shops in every corner of Japan along with clones of himself. If they were forced to play through this whole game before recording then I don't blame them. Our protagonist's voice is not bad on its own but I heard it in so many other games before that it really makes hard treating her as an unique character. I guess it's more important to hire popular actors for promotion purposes instead of actors with distinctive voice.
The music is... fine, I guess? I did not have problem listening to it in the game (some tracks will be repeated a lot though) but there is nothing I would listen outside of the game, well, maybe except Yomotsuhirasaka theme.
The game's environments are one of the blandest I have ever seen. If you bought the artbook, compare the artwork with what we have in the game, this is just sad. The locations are so desolate, it gives an impression of travelling in post-apocalyptic Japan where 95% of population are soldiers, thugs and muta.. I mean the myriad gods. Animations are equally bad in both quantity and quality. Maybe someone should have spend game's budget on better environments and animations instead of crappy looking anime cutscenes. 2D artwork is nice at least.
Commenting on port quality is not something I'm good at, but I will mention at least this: no graphic options besides resolution, 30fps lock, I did not experience any crashes and I did not notice any bugs (well, maybe 1-2 minor ones but I'm not sure).
I enjoyed the core of this game, the combat. Numerous classes, skills, elevation advantages, no turn limits and no "you did not finish this map in one turn, what a miserable excuse for a player you turned out to be" style rankings, that's why I bothered to play in the first place. There are some issues of course, I will address few:
- I read a lot of complaints about very slow movement and big maps, it's true in the early game. Later you will get passive and active skills along with move boosting equipment, so the characters will be able to traverse maps pretty quickly.
- Attack and defend abilities are rather redundant, there is no point in using them instead of skill or items, you will only get only less experience and job points for minimal benefit.
- There are too many party members. 14 in the main game, 19 in the post-game. Of course you can only use 6 in the main story battles, 5 in side missions and 8 in the post-game, so obviously many of them will be underleveled unless you will go out of your way to switch your party members after every battle. There is no need for so many characters for both story and combat reasons, they should have cut the amount to 8 or 10 instead and make them more unique. Every character has a unique job but majority of their skill will become completely obsolete eventually. They did not even bother to animate mouth movement for the last three party members.
Normally, that would be the end of review, but the is one more thing worth mentioning, the post-game. The store description did not lie about "An overwhelming game volume with a total play time of 160 hours", I wish it did. The post-game is a set of exciting looking cave stages. The first thing you will notice, they reused a lot of old enemies, just added purple colour and better stats. Then you will see reused bosses. Next they reused the entire maps. Take a river map from the story, replace water with void, done, a new map. I admire the developers dedication to provide us with new hand-crafted content. But it's too early to stop. We reach level 25 and get one of the "multiple endings". It's a bad cutscene. So what do we do to get another ending? Finish stages 21-25 again, only enemies have more levels this time. As reward we get a slightly different bad cutscene. How to get another one? That's right, finish the same 5 stages with beefier enemies AGAIN. The only reason those "multiple endings" exist is because they were so desperate to find anything worthy for the "complete edition" re-release advertisement. F fantastic. And two more things:
- There are 3 stages that force you to use specific party members so have fun if you did not level them before.
- You might say "oh, it's just the usual post game dungeon stuff for additional challenge". But if you want to care about the story (for some reason) like the game wants you to, you will have to finish all 40 stages for "true ending" and 10 more for "super secret sequel hook cutscene" (?).
If you still want to play this game after reading all of this, my only advice is play the main story and be done with it, or else enjoy the same content repetition to your heart's content.
Bonus
- "I had a sneaking suspicion while playing that translation quality is subpar but I have no concrete examples to show. Should I mention it in the review? Well, let's check the credits at least."
- "Saroi Hayami"
- "NISA Localization Team"
- *pretends to be shocked*
