Huge downgrade from Dirt 4. It boggles my mind they don't simply sell the old one again instead of this.

UPDATE 7/24/25: Still broken with the most recent driver update 577.00 Don't buy if you run Nvidia, game is 100% broken. Can't get past title screen without crashing. Apparently been true for the past few drivers

Game freezed on start. Unable to play this game on Windows with RTX 3050 and i3 12th gen. While on Windows with RTX 5060, i5 12th gen and Steam Deck (Steam OS), it has no game freeze issue. Previously I thought Windows 10 can fix it but still freezed on start. This Nvidia Driver fixed this problem at least for now https://steamcommunity.com/app/1038250/discussions/0/601909079150953470/

The game is great for a quick pick-me up race. No story, no driving to the event, no open world crap, just great fun arcade style racing. And it plays excellent on the Steam Deck.

I fired this thing up expecting a modern DiRT 3, maybe even a more arcade-y DiRT 4, and what I got was a neon-lit clown show with zero rally spirit. Also for shit for brains sake don't get me with the Career Mode, that literally felt like listening to two washed-up YouTubers try to revive their dead podcast while I’m stuck doing the same 3 events in different colors. To sum it all up, this game looks like it was art-directed by a Fortnite addict during a sugar crash - neon vomit everywhere with zero grit. Don't bother picking this up, you'll thank me later. 4/10

Fans of the older titles make it sound like this game killed their grandma but I like it a lot, and this is coming from someone who holds DiRT 2 at the highest regard. It's structured very similarly to the first two Motorstorm games when it comes to events, so no story going on to justify your racing. The handling is not similar to the previous DiRT games, it's more in-line with what you find in Motorstorm and Driveclub with some of the bones from Onrush under the hood, but that doesn't make it boring. The one mode that brings the experience down are those rock-crawling events, the handling doesn't do it many favors. The car selection has a bunch of oddballs but I take that a bit more of a plus than a downer. Still, there's a bunch of rally legends to pick from like the RS200. The visuals look amazing and the performance is rock-solid. The only visual compromise is the dated TAA they went for but it doesn't look that horrible during gameplay. The one thing that I'm sure killed the reputation of this game is that it was made to be an entry in the mainline series instead of a spin-off like Showdown was. Would've been easier for the hardcore fans to stomach it had they gone for a subtitle instead, but since Rally/WRC still exists it's not like it permanently ended the simulation side of DiRT. If you want a game with no BS holding you back then definitely get this on a sale. It's also one of the few modern racing games with split-screen support so it's perfect for grabbing a second controller and throwing it at a friend to have some quick fun. The online modes are also still up, just not as populated, though crossplay does help. The Playgrounds mode that's very similar that mode from Skate that lets you create your own park is also interesting to mess with.
