I enjoyed my time with this one! Lots of the features seem unimplemented; however, this is obviously made with love. It seems like a few persons myself included got stuck on one particular part, but there are discussions in the boards that help.
The only con I have with this title is the price tag. Even with my confusion I finished this very quickly, and the sheer quantity of bugs I encountered was pretty extreme given the asking price. Thankfully, it was on sale for 3$.

Definitely a pretty odd game, but it feels genuinely very old school. Everything from the artstyle to the sound design to the jank menus is all very aesthetic. I didn't even really mind the one or two minor bugs I ran into, it kind of felt like part of the experience.
I bought this at about $4USD and would say I had about an 8/10 experience considering this seems like a passion project.
Nice job, dev!

Very cool game, but way too many bugs. I LOVE the feel of it, it feels like a mix of King's Field and System Shock.

Had a good time with this and felt some feedback was needed.
The game is fun, looks cool and plays well, and I dig most of the soundtrack. Tons of charm and it does the retro / PSX era visuals well.
Here's where I have to be honest about some of the more challenging parts. First, the list price is a bit steep for what you get, as I completed the main story in about 2 hours. The length is probably the saddest part, because in my opinion its untapped potential - a full length / 10 hour run time alone would've made this an automatic positive review. Other issues were that my game save would for some reason delete itself, and the videos never played correctly. I had to button mash to get the game to start and I'm still not even honestly sure how or what I pressed to get me into the game. Controls are a bit wonky too, with a hard lock to WASD + Mouse, with the second mouse button turning off/on free look.
All of this said, I still recommend it with the caveat that you get it on sale. This is definitely a fun afternoon and worth playing. I'm sure someone could come along and say its underdeveloped etc, but I would argue that the developer clearly has some talent and love for the project - it's just a bit rough around the edges.

Love watching the 90's intro video then it completely crashing the entire game bringing me back to the launcher. Tried multiple times to fix it, but then when I finally gave up and went to the discussion board, the dev is telling people to just refund it. I bought it in a bundle and want to keep the other games... guess I'm just SOL

The game does not function properly. Out of the 4 times I have loaded it only one has worked properly.
Everything from graphical issues, crashes, and game saves just not working.
I wanted to like this game but I can barely play it.

I have yet to put much time into this but I noticed a lack of reviews and wanted to share my thoughts on Malevolence.
This is one of very few 90's throwback games that actually feels like it could have been made back then. The look and feel is just perfect. As is this music! Simply wandering the halls of the castle is an incredibly atmospheric (and nostalgic) experience.
As for gameplay, it's mostly focused on exploration with just a little bit of combat. It's amazing how enjoyable it is to just walk around looking in ever nook and cranny, wondering what you might come across next. I've already come across plenty of surprises! The fighting mechanics on the other hand are admittedly very basic and without a doubt the worst part of my experience so far.
Honestly though, aside from some glitches and the poor combat, this is a really cool experience. Malevolence is, in my opinion, a true "Hidden Gem" and definitely worth checking out!
