This positive review comes with huge caveats. The game is technically sound and has phenomenal graphics and music, however, the difficulty is no joke. If you believe that you are the "creme de la creme" of metrodivanias, this game will slap that notion out of your brain quickly. Silksong demands your utmost attention because every screen, every enemy, every battle is an exercise in life or death. Even the most minuscule enemy can kill you in three hits. Some of the platforming is an acquired taste (that I have yet to acquire)...The jump attack to bounce off spring platforms to gain access to hire places is annoying. Just give me a double jump with some annoying platform sections rather than pogo stick nonsense. I also think the community here is very unwelcoming to people that have legitimate critiques. Not that I care per se, but be mindful if you like posting on discussions because you will get the "skill issue", "git gud"...rhetoric... For me, being in my mid-forties now, I do not have time for this type of game, unlike when I was younger (as that me would have loved to conquer it). I might come back to it eventually, but there are too many other things I would rather be doing at the moment rather than playing Silksong..and for me that is telling. Overall, 6.5/10 -LoA-

Masterpiece. Just like first Hollow Knight, but even better. Top tier metroidvania, IMO the best of genre. Can't wait for DLCs

TL;DR Get the game if you love Team Cherry and Hollow Knight. Dont get it if you don't have much time in life. First the good. I love the music, the art and the movement of Hornet. The map can be quite annoying but has its charm. Bosses are hit and miss with some great bosses and some just plain annoying ones. Now why I can not recommend it. The QoL is just a dealbreaker for me. Long run ups to bosses you have to learn over and over again. Traps which are only there to scream "gotcha" and then you mostly bypass them, since you now know where they are afterwards. The absolute gatekeeping of upgrades and damage spikes to make everything feel tedious. TWO currency with one only being there to make you having to farm so you can keep using your tools (which is also gatekept by only allowing you a certain number of the currency so you cant stockpile them). Quests with everyones favourite "Fetch me 10 flowers from around the corner I am too bored to get myself". Those quests being kinda mandatory for reasons I wont get into making it even worse. Bosses: Some Bosses are just pure art and I love them. Love learning them and even while screaming bloody murder didnt mind much to learn. Others are just ... straight up dumb. Filling areanas with small minions throwing things across the screen while preparing their own attack which you sometimes just cant see makes it feel after winning like you didnt "earn it" but rather "got lucky with rng". For me personally it feels like a game I am just happy to have finished at some point rather then being happy to play it like I felt with hollow knight. Since recommendations are own opinions I will just state: 5/10 for now, still gonna 100 % it and go for the DLCs as well.

The difficulty curve is not untenable. I am a causal gamer and I like the story and the weapon set provided.

Team Cherry knocked it out of the park again and continues to cement Hollow Knight as my absolute favourite video game series of all time. Hollow Knight was already a masterpiece, but Silksong just managed to take it to new heights. Every moment in the game is just incredible, from the art style to the deep themes and motifs. AND THE SOUNDTRACK!? Christopher Larkin is an absolute genius, complementing the visual and gameplay storytelling with music that makes you feel the story of Pharloom in your soul. And that ending... the last hour of the game is just moment after moment after moment... it is ABSOLUTE CINEMA.

Silksong is like a dream that you never want to wake up from. It's easily the best indie game I've ever played. I loved Hollow Knight, but Silksong takes everything that made the original great and elevates it to another level. It feels like an upgrade in every possible way. This game completely hooked me. No other game has made me want to play this much. While I was playing, it felt like I was living in its world. It's one of those rare experiences that makes you sad when it ends because you know you'll never be able to experience it for the first time again. I truly believe Silksong deserved to be Game of the Year 2025. Many people ignored it saying it's just another Hollow Knight, but for me it's so much more than that. It's the ultimate GOTY. I've also played expedition 33, which is fantastic in its own right, but it didn't come close to the impact Silksong had on me. The credits soundtrack was absolutely beautiful. It genuinely made me cry as I reflected on my journey from the very beginning to the end. Few games have ever connected with me on that level. Silksong is a masterpiece and a perfect 10/10. It's a game that every gamer deserves to experience at least once in their life. Now all I can do is eagerly wait for the dlc and hope it isn't too far away.

Basically Hollow Knight but better: the charm system is incredible, no more brute-forcing everything, now you gotta THINK! If I had a single tip to say: almost every tedious section of the game has a solution to make it easier, coming back later/exploring more is usually the answer. Highly recommend, now we just need a Godhome!
