Dude this game is really fun. I think I'm gonna end up becoming addicted! I would say there is a lack of music, but that may be personal preference. Also, the way the screen moves with your mouse makes it harder for me, but it may be personal preference again. Overall, I've really enjoyed what I've played! So glad it was cheap, cause otherwise I wouldn't have been able to play! Good job dude!

Challenging and fun, though it is fairly short, and for me a bit too fast paced at times (that darn mushroom)

Ruination the game came to me once when I had sleep paralysis. He sat down beside my bed and whispered softly in my ear "You can make as many jokes as you'd like but that won't change the fact that you have viewed the entirety of the 2016 film Suicidee Squad on three separate occasions". I tried to fight protest, "No it's not like that" I claimed, "I did it ironically, it doesn't count". But I knew deep down he was right, and since then I continue to slip deeper into black viscus ocean that is my own self-loathing, perhaps never to graced by the light of the sun again. Overall I give this game an 11/10, really the Dark Souls of 2D platformers.

I really enjoy this game, though it is quite difficult. I understand why some people say it is the Dark Souls of 2D platformers. I like the fast pace and the fact that you get to choose any gun you have unlocked in previous runs. Looking forward to beating this - hope for more content from this developer!

Ruination is thoroughly ruined by its awful controls. My playtime is low because I simply could not stand to proceed further. Fortunately, Zachary Lee's subsequent title, Shrine of the God-Ape, is well worth the $1. If you bought that and want more, don't buy this. If you made the mistake of buying this, don't be deterred from buying that.

Ruination is legitimately one of the best games I have played this year. Normally I struggle to get into games with a higher difficulty but with Ruination is was different. Where normally I just feel frustration with Ruination I just felt focused to do better. When you get into it there is just a flow about it. Death after death goes by and slowly you get better and better. And then you do it. I can not remember the last time I lept out of my chair with excitement playing a game but 3 times I did it with Ruination. Overall it is short but masterfully constructed. I genuinely love this game.

Pros 1. First of all, the guns are actually pretty cool. The rocket launchers shots are so powerful they rip through the floor to kill enemies youre not even aiming at. 2. Style. Okay, not exactly the prettiest game but i'll be DAMNED if it isn't cute. Aside from that though, i cant find anything positive. Cons: Ohohohoh, lads. There are plenty. 1. There is no tutorial, you're left to fend for yourself with not a single glimmer of instruction, NOT A SINGLE IMAGE to prompt you in the right direction. 2. The minigun. But wait, why am i leaving one gun as a con for the ENTIRE game? Well, have you ever taken LSD, and then gotten so drunk you started seeing 6 girlfriends instead of the 0 we all know you have? Have you then, after doing so, went on a drive through the middle of Toyko at midnight while there was a fucking EARTHQUAKE happening? . . . Yeah that just about sums up the minigun in this game. 3. The enemies don't even have health bars so you're left guessing or just randomly one shotting them. 4. Speaking of health bars, YOU DON'T HAVE ONE EITHER! 5. Oh, you thought 4 was the only thing missing? YOU DON'T HAVE A POINT COUNTER. 6. Ha! You thought 4 and 5 were the only things missing? BUT IT WAS I, DIO ALL ALO- *cough* I mean you don't have mission objectives either. I would go on, but i just don't think a list of 10 cons vs 2 pros is fair to the creator of this game. Despite what i said about it so far i think it has great potential. First things first, SCALE THE SCREEN SHAKING. THE. FUCK. DOWN. I'm not trying to have a seizure every time i shoot my weapon! Secondly, add a tutorial, i'm sure we all would like to know what the hell is going on. Third? Just... Health bars. Mana bars. Anything, literally anything to indicate when i'm going to die or not. That said, i would NOT recommend it. I would recommend you WORKED on it.

You may have heard this labeled as the next "Dark Souls" game, a term that seems to be thrown around whenever anything implements some D&D: difficulty and dodging. While certainly adept at both, to say that this is at all comparable to the popular franchise is borderline comedy, and inflates the importance of expectations one has going into it. Ruination is an attempt at a challenging afternoon with a crunch of ruthlessness, though not so through the accurate challenge of skill and robustness. For what it does, it's well worth the time, asking price, and effort. Anything more is likely hyperbole for the sake of it. + Great old-school challenge + Quality makes price a huge bargain + Neat sci-fi aesthetic - Lacking overall in content/variety - Controls take time to adjust to (if ever) - No music is an odd choice Read the full review at https://www.keengamer.com/article/20983_ruination-review
