All the jank, tedium and annoyance of old school games, collected and presented to you as a joke. "Hey, remember when games did all these things that sucked? Isn't that funny?"
I've played for 117 minutes and I have been annoyed pretty much the whole time. I've played several SNES era games recently. They still hold up. This lacks all of the charm and interest of those old games and relies almost entirely on nostalgia, hoping that you'll forgive how boring and tedious the gameplay is because it reminds you of old games.

Nice compilation of two little games. The emphasis on evolution and references to retro games are entertaining.

The first Evoland is a great RPG parody, taking the player through the gradual evolution of the genre. Laughed & marveled the whole way through this unique journey that never takes itself too seriously. So glad i gave it a try!

1st game fantastic, took only 6h to compleate
the game had cool mechanics to get upgrades to get better graphics
2nd was not fun 20+h to complete at 100%
Could be good game on it's own, but after first I was expecting something similar, not this.
It was fun at the beginning, had cool easter eggs(like everywhere), but at some point it started annoy to listen to their talking all the time.
card game feels rigged: guard and old man had insane cards that hit first with a lot of dmg, I had no chance of winning, collected more cards, the insane cards in their decks disappeared (I still got shitty cards in hand, but they just stopped drawing 5/8 5/10 like it never was in their decks)
I also had fun with racing the tree, it runs barly slower then mc, took me 14 tries (in guide the tree runs barly, they manage race it with space for another tree, I got barly space for pnky in between)
Owerall good game, especially 1st one

Fun game and cool concept. It's like a museum about video game history that you can play.

Evoland has been sitting in my wishlist for the past 10 years and now I finally decided to play it.
EVOLAND 1:
Evoland 1 is a parody and doesn't take itself seriously. Nostalgia bait is shoved in your face one after another, in the style of: "hey remember random encounters? Those sucked lol. Anyway the world map will be full of them now.". The game play is garbage for the most part and the most atrocious segment is the Action RPG, which is more reminiscent of a zero budget mobile game. The specific game most referenced is FF7, which I love of course, but it doesn't save the game.
100% in 5 hours, no guides needed. They handled collection well in my opinion.
My favorite part was a town rendered in the style of FF7, that was cool.
EVOLAND 2:
Evoland 2 is a completely different story, they had a BUDGET for this game. They hired an artist and the music is good, the gameplay is overall much better. They copied many aspects over from Chrono Trigger, which fits the theme perfectly. Chrono Trigger is also somewhere at the very top of games on my list, so I'm probably biased.
Lots of variety in gameplay, mostly JRPG but we have bomberman, top down shmup, sidescrolling shmup, MTG, platformer, fucking connect three, many more and a bunch of puzzles for some reason (Layton I guess). Basically a bunch of different games a millennial has probably played, with a brief glance at old games like Snake, Pong and Pac-Man.
Hard to say which part was my favorite, perhaps either The Anomaly or Antiquity. I even got invested in the story and really hoped to see more of the Magi, seeing that they are basically the enlightened ones of Zeal Kingdom.
100% in 23 hours, I really took my time with this one, didn't want it to end. Collection is a lot of work, but you can find everything without a guide.
I spent a long time just wandering around in the present, where even the characters look like they're straight out of Chrono Trigger.
