Haven't tried online yet.. So I don't know how well that is handled. But this game has 2 things I love: local multiplayer, and a GREAT execution when it comes to crafting mechanics and physics. It needs some main UX rework when it comes to UI (conform to standard usability norms).. But who cares, that's just UI, this is afterall an Indie game, doesn't need to be super polished on these things. I really hope the Devs can get the visibility needed for this game. Devs! Make a good marketing plan for this hidden gem!

A star rating would be useful for this one: I got the singleplayer Version of the Game and already had some fun with it. Now i got the Online Version for free, cause i'm a supporter or whatever. Game itself is pretty fun. But the massive lag in every lobby(yeah even with everybody having 30-50ms) ruins the fun a lot. If they get this under control the game surely will be fun for a few rounds with friends/randoms. Get it while it's on sale.

Really fun for friends. Data realms is really good at making game engines not so much games, so get this while on sale. I got it for like a dollar and brings hours of fun to my friends and I.

I so wish this game would get the attention it deserves. Absolutely loved Cortex Command. Was over the Moon when I heard about Planetoid Pioneers, and then to see an online version of it!? Unfortunately the last update was 2019. It is a damn shame this game isn't supported more or developed further. There's so much fun to be had here.

Unfortunately that's a no from me. Played through all the introduction mission types with 2 friends, here's what we found out. It eats the RAM (7-11 GB). It lags the game when there's AI (sometimes down to around 10 fps due to latency ketchup). It lags the multiplayer from putting down more physical objects. It needs unlocking to go through different multiplayer maps. Due to lag on certain missions (bridge building), we didn't unlock the others because everyone was playing at less than 10 frames per second at one point in the mission. It has unreliably janky physics. Building a bridge with wood (the game mode). A rover goes past and everytime, no matter how secure the wood planks were via concrete struts connected to rocks, it will always break wood from a player walking on wood or from the rover driving on it. Instead of a fun cooperative building experience, Planetoid Pioneers becomes, how long until the game lag makes us quit this game mode.

Planetoid Pioneers Online is, essentially, a pack of multiplayer minigames built using the Planetoid Pioneers base game. I had high hopes for this game, considering how much I enjoyed Cortex Command back in the day and how I've heard good things about Planetoid Pioneers, but in its current state, it's a disappointing and barebones mess. Performance starts out poor and gets exponentially worse as the game runs, particularly as additional physics objects are added to the scene (a severe issue in a game where even player movement relies on the physics engine).Things that you'd take for granted in a modern game, such as graphical fidelity settings, key bindings, and even a pause menu, are absent. The various game-modes and maps on offer, though initially impressive in their variety, are incredibly basic and have next to no replay value. Overall, the game feels like the product of a few weeks the developers spent playing around with the engine, with some netcode stapled on to facilitate basic multiplayer play. Their decision to sell this separately from the single-player Planetoid Pioneers is particularly confusing - we can only assume that the company must be desperate for income. I'd say to avoid this for a few months until it's in a more complete state, but given Data Realms's track record with completing their games in a timely manner - Cortex Command was in an unfinished alpha state for a good few years before its completion - you might be better off waiting for much longer instead.

Both games are poorly optimized, the online version is standalone and searching for games took ages. You can buy better games with less money. Cortex is better than this.

Planetoid Pioneers ONLINE doesn't seem to have functional ONLINE capabilities. Buy the non-online version or cortex command and remote-play with your friends. Don't expect to find a game in this, and don't expect your friends to be able to join either. Cortex command is honestly a deeper and more fun game anyways.

I got this game thinking that it had single player and they were just marketing some kind of new online modes they added to the game. It took me 2 AND A HALF hours to realize that this was just some kind of crappy online tech demo and the game I was actually looking for (planetoid pioneers) is a different game because...money. - Nobody plays...as in no one. All modes are empty always so getting this for the multiplayer, which is the point of this version I guess, is utterly pointless. -Can't save your progress at all so unlocks don't matter since as soon as you leave that "lobby" you lose everything you found/earned/made. -Most of this game is just a bunch of different gamemodes built around pvp so unless you have friends that get this to play with you most of the game is unplayable since it lacks any playerbase. TLDR: If you see the videos and think this looks like a fun game then you may want to grab "planetoid pioneers" NOT "planetoid pioneers online". there is no playerbase whatsoever and it makes most of the game unplayable.
