Blood Island is an asset/template flip made with the godawful Raycasting Game Maker engine used to generate cheap ripoffs of Wolfenstein 3D. Gameplay consists of simple single plane FPS shooting sprite based enemies on small 2D levels, just like Wolf3D. stariy8419/Garage Games have a known history of trying to scam people into paying them money for someone else's work. One example of stariy8419/Garage Games doing this is Shop Battle, which is really the "Simple Shop Interiors - Cartoon assets" asset, written by the actual developers, Synty Studios. Garage Games (through his many alt accounts like ImperiumGame, HotFoodGames, GreatHopeStudio and so on) also push a huge amount of Russian GameMaker Studio asset flip pollution onto Steam, all with the intent to scam gamers into buying garbage. While reviews are about the game and not the developer, it's important to keep this in mind because it sheds light on why Blood Island is such a terrible game that nobody should buy. The Raycasting Game Maker engine is garbage. It has oversensitive mouse settings, so if you use the mouse to steer, you will just flip around endlessly with zero control. However, you must use the mouse to shoot, so the game is effectively unplayable. This is no different from any other game made with this engine. It's garbage. Also, like every other Raycasting Game Maker asset flip, resolution and controls are locked and can't be changed, and the graphics horrible, low resolution "pixel" trash. It's pure trash, and while the intent of the construction kit was to make small games to pass around with friends, and to teach some aspects of game making, unethical developers will dump the games on Steam as cash grabs. Like Blood Island. I used to think things like GameMaker Studio and RPG Maker were the worse game construction kits for allowing talentless "developers" to make "games". Actually, they still are, no matter how bad or unplayable this trash is. Regardless, you can play Wolf3D for free, and it's better than this. It's also important to note the "developer" here has connections to a large number of shady Russian asset flippers and review manipulators who show an organised pattern to scam and defraud gamers with fake reviews and asset flipping the work of others for profit. While reviews are about the games, gamers should be informed when developers act unethically. Whether these connections are the same developer using multiple accounts, or just working closely with other unethical developers, gamers should be warned about the harm to gamers by this developer and their associates. Buying games from unethical developers puts your money at risk. Note: Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not count towards your Game Collector counts, achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.

Well...I paid 99 cents, and I knew what the graphics were like going in. The music in the first level is kind of cute (you can hear it in the video, which shows the start of the game), and the other sounds are typical for the engine. I didn't manage to clear the level because I stood toe-toe-toe with the enemy in each fight, which made me lose about 15% of my health every time. The video makes it clear you need to dash-retreat to minimize health loss, as there aren't many health boosts available on the level. It's partially localized, with an intro story text that suffers the usual non-native-English Indie dev errors. The world map is a graphic, and everything is still in Cyrillic characters. I found a wall in the level that was also in Cyrillic, but couldn't tell if it was a billboard or some sort of instructions telling me what I needed to do to get past it (it look like an "end of the level" screen). Controls are WASD mouselook, space to open doors, tab for the map. Keys cannot be remapped, and the mouselook speed, which I found a bit too slow, cannot be changed. What you see in the intro is what you get. It's cute enough to have another go at finishing the first level.
