Modern Tales: Age of Invention is a sympathetic casual H.O. Game. The story is fine and realistic. The background and atmosphere are great. The choice for the historical period choice (1900 World's Fair / Exposition Universelle) makes the story be even more worthing. Nice graphics. Quite short though (no bonus chapter) and not very challenging (easy puzzles and H.O.Scenes : no difficulty at all). Achievements are easy to get too. I only recommend it to people looking for a fairly casual and easy playthrough.

The game was really fun and didn't drive me insane with it's "where to stick this into" shtick! Everything made sense... Yes. Yes it did. All mini games are doable and collectibles aren't insane hard to find either. I also like the story line and semi-romance? XD That was cute... It is time for Emily to zap her way through the bad guys... In order to find her mother! Albert and Coco can tag along too! Thank yous! :D :3 =)

Close to the worst HOG I've played. Every contrivance that hidden object games are renowned for is amplified here to the power of ten. At times, it was excruciatingly annoying. A 30/100 effort. The good Some challenging puzzles A few challenging HO scenes too Bright and clean visuals The bad Absolutely ridiculous villain Protagonist isn't much better Ditto for her father Story is absurd, and it ends on a mega-absurdity when this science-based HOG descends into fantasy (magic staff) to win the day Everything that can break does break, and needs to be fixed. Practically everything Ridiculous needed item progression: to name one - to get rid of a dog you need to find a key, that opens a junction box that has sausages in it to give to the dog. Yes, sausages hidden in a locked junction box. Most HOGs have this kind of mechanism, but here it's taken to a stupefying extreme. Game uses famous people poorly - Albert Einstein, Ferdinand von Zeppelin and Nazi collaborator herself Coco Chanel.

Modern Tales: Age of Invention is a hidden object game set in the early 20th century. You play as Emily Patterson, the daughter of a scientist trying to save her dad, kidnapped by an evil count. In her journey, she will meet several real inventors, such as Albert Einstein and Coco Chanel, which Emily's look is probably based upon. The thing I like about this HOG is the beautiful, colorful artstyle, as well as the fun adventure vibe. The character designs and speaking animations are also well done. Emily is also a voiced character, which I like, but in some cutscenes she just sounds so flat, like text-to-speech instead of a person. I read many people say the hidden object scenes in this game is easy, and I got to agree, they aren't as cluttered as normal ones. I think its a good change, but it makes things easier, if you're looking for hard HO scenes you won't find it here. Another unusual, great addition is the usage of collectibles. Usually these just serve as means to unlock achievements, but in this case it has a story purpose. Finding them all allows you to open a secret panel, giving a bit of backstory on Emily's mom and making the final dialogue more optimistic. The sad thing about this game is the lack of a bonus chapter, an additional chapter continuing the Patterson family's story would be nice. There are also some minigames with no reset button, the notorious one is a Hungarian rings puzzle which can take very long to solve if you messed up and not wanting to skip. But other than those issues, Modern Tales: Age of Invention is a pretty great HOG, and you will probably enjoy it more if you like stuff like old automobiles and blimps as well as the historical figures.

This game is really great. It is really good combination of attractive story and nice graphics. Screens are colourful, it is typical for modern games unlike some older ones and I really like this approach in newer games. The items in HOS are big and they are cleverly hidden in the screen. They are easy to find but still hard enough to have fun and to feel the challenge. The objects are logically connected to the place. The story has a nice flow and there are believable places here which is all the more appealing. The minigames are easier and they are a natural part of the story. I enjoyed all the time. My recomendation is high YES. There is everything you might like about HOG.

The word that best sums up Modern Tales is "lovely". After Tiny Tales was such a disappointment, I'm happy Artifex Mundi are back to their usual standard with this. The world this game takes you to is enthralling, the artistry is superb, (just the depth of every single location is amazing) and the production values all around are top notch. The voice acting, while not stellar, is perfectly serviceable and there's even a hint of tongue-in-cheek humor here and there. (You get to talk to Ferdinand Porsche and buy his newfangled car. It's precious.) If you're a fan of HOGs, you should know Artifex Mundi already. Pick this one up, it's an excellent little gem.
Short version: 88%
Modern Tales poses almost no challenge as a hidden object game, but it is a fun, thrilling adventure in the truest sense of the word.
Long version:
If we took a sci-fi adventure novel from Jules Verne, rewrote it into a 1940s pulp story, and ran it through a hidden object game creation kit, we would end up with Modern Tales: Age of Invention. This entire game dedicates itself to the concept of an adventure, as we jump into the role of a scientist girl who tries to rescue her father, his clandestine collection of colleagues, and their inventions from the clutches of a greedy French businessman. This approach also meant many clichés and some famous real-world people ending up in unrealistic supporting roles, but it all pales to one important thing: the story is fun! It has to be fun though, because the gameplay is so ridiculously easy that it is almost non-existent. Every important object is easily distinguishable, hidden object scenes have large items with minimal clutter, and even the standard puzzles are child’s play. Essentially, they just add enough gameplay to let us enjoy the rest of the game for what it is: a simple, yet incredible adventure.

I have a lot of the game series that come from Artifex Mundi and none of them have ever failed to take me on a wonderful adventure. And after playing as Emily Patterson...I hope there is more to come. I do know I enjoyed every bit of this game. All the scenes were beautiful. The music score was awesome. The cut scenes placed perfectly. The voice acting was superb. The puzzles were a variety and went will with the game. Though the areas aren't big they are filled with lots of puzzles and the game is a good length. The developers do a wonderful job of putting famous people like Cocoa, Porsche and other famous people in the good. It made that game and story that more interesting. If you are a hidden object puzzle adventure fan I highly recommend this game.

Modern Tales: Age of Invention is a visually beautiful game with a decent story. The game sat in Paris 1900, you play as Emily Patterson, a famous scientist daughter who's been captured and forced to work out his captor's evil plan. Having a brave and smart daughter who traveled from Paris to Switzerland then all the way to Siberia to save her father. during her journey, she'll meet new friends like Coco Chanel who was interested in Emily's fashion style. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1176173557 The game's artwork is beautifully made, the colors and details are breathtaking. Same going for the hidden objects scenes which looked pretty good and not over cluttered. I found one of the mini-games challenging to the point that I had to skip it then follow a video tutorial of how to do it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1176173876 It has a fast traveling map, and there is a reward for the collectibles you find in each location you visit. The soundtracks fit the game well, although it felt a little bit repetitive after some time. I wasn't keen on the voice-overs, but it is not 'too bad' https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1821846159 Pros: +Beautiful locations and graphics. +OK music. +OK Story. +Fast traveling map. +Collectibles. +Steam achievements. Cons: -No Bonus chapter. -Not so good voice-overs. -No Journal. It is a refreshing HOG, do play it if you own it. Recommended to all HOGs and adventure lovers.
