Such a good game. I remember playing this about 15 years ago and always loved it but could not beat it back then because the puzzles were too complicated for my kid brain then haha. Playing this again now(so glad they had it on Steam!) brought back so many fond memories. The soundtrack, voices and gameplay are just pure nostalgia. I definitley reccommend this to anyone who is a fan of 90's PC games that require a bit of puzzle work and trial and error.

This is a fun and original little game from the mid-nineties, I first heard of it through hearing Stéphane Picq's epic main theme for the game, which hits you from the very first scene and really gets you pumped for this prehistoric adventure. The rest of the game's music is pretty good too, but nothing is quite so memorable.
The gameplay is standard for the era, this is not really a point-and-click adventure, which is both good and bad: you might prefer some harder puzzles, but on the other hand there's no pixel-hunting or annoying sudden deaths. The only real danger in the game, in fact, comes from lingering too long if you bump into the Tyrann, your Tyrannosauroid foes. Simply ride like the wind if you see them and you'll be fine. If you get stuck on a puzzle, you have an item that gives you a hint, which is nice and cuts down the need for guides.
All dialogue and cutscenes can be skipped if you want, though the voice-acting and graphics have a lot of retro charm. The design of the human tribes is very interesting - I loved the bizarre and creepy-sounding Castra, for example. The Tamnians on the other hand were unsettling in a bad way, leaning a little too heavily on the stereotype of the stupid, subhuman savage for my tastes. That was pretty much my only complaint with the game however.
It's a short game, I beat it in five and a half hours. Best get it on sale if you want it since the full price is a bit much for a game from this era. Still, it's fun for what it is.
Edit: Docked a notch for a strangely abrupt and anticlimactic ending. Where's the scene of all the dinos and humans partying in the forest after the war is over? Man, they missed a trick there.

As a kid, I had played many videogames before this one. But it was Lost Eden that really got me to develop my love for strange, mysterious games and non-traditional fantasy worlds. The music and art manage to walk the fine line between unsettling and beautiful. The gameplay is a that of a fairly straightforward adventure game, with a very light smattering of RTS sauce. You'll mostly play it for the story, but there is joy in figuring out how this weird world operates by consulting your party members and wandering around. As you get more familiar with the different dinosaur species, where they roam around, which items they enjoy or hate, and what use they can serve, you'll find yourself more and more immersed in the game's prehistoric fantasy landscape.
If you enjoy Lost Eden, I can also heartily recommend Cryo's earlier title 'Dune', which leans much heavier into being an RTS as well as an adventure game, and continues Cryo's penchant for beautifully unique music and art.

I suppose Lost Eden was an adventure game marvel back in '95, but playing it now and having loads upon loads of other adventure games to compare it against Lost Eden feels pretty bland. While the story of the game is quite unique and shows dinosaurs and humans living and working together, the gameplay itself is very repetitive. There are a few locations which are supposedly under oppression and it's your job to liberate them. I won't spoil how that's done but let's just say you have to find the same resources and repeat the same actions in each one of them. At that point Lost Eden becomes a bit of a grind and feels like the story, a.k.a the core of this game falls somewhere behind the scenes and only becomes a bit more interesting towards the end. I think it deserves a thumbs up for the creative world-building, but if there's no nostalgia in your heart towards this game, chances are you won't think of it as very good.

This was a real nostalgia trip for me, and I was happy to see this game again on steam.
The graphics were great for its time, and the soundtrack still does a good job at setting the mood. I don't remember fully voiced games being very common in the mid-90s either.
By todays standards, the game doesn't take long to complete, and though the setting is interesting, it's not as fleshed out as I remember it. It's a 20 year old game, and though it shows, I feel that it is a unique game that has aged reasonably well.
If you're interested in games from this period, then this game is a relaxing experience that I can recommend.

This is for nostalgia, really.
I stumbled on this game in 1996, and while my native language is not german, the version I played was. I loved everymoment of it.
The game holds true to its technolocy for the time and runs well in todays hardware (WIndows 10 with a HD TV hooked as monitor), I had to set the "-fullscreen" launch option or otherwise it just stayed windowed which is annoying, but you only needl configure it once.
That issue aside the graphics, music and voice overs are there, sadly no german voice overs in this Steam version, now that I played the game in english for the first time I can safely say the voice overs in german were superior for some key characters, such as the villan, I still have the original box and CD in german and I do play this game every 3 years or so, the narrative is imprinted on my mind after so many play sessions over my life. I could be tainted with nostalgia which should also be considered in this review.
All in all, its not a challenging game and it can be beating in 3-6 hours, less even if you skip videos and some chatter, which I never do.
If you liked it, or missed and want to check it out, go ahead! English, Italian, Spanish are available as languages.
Cheers!

This game... I was only a fledgling when I played this game with a nephew on the CD-I (Philips) back at my grandpa's house.
We all grown up now and grandpa is long gone, but at least this game remains a tangible memory from times when the sun always seemed to shine. It was much easier then I remembered, I must have been gotten better at games.
