jackie chan warriors. it's not perfect, imo, and feels a little unfair/unfun when you get unlucky with offensive choices or enemy spawns. but the aesthetics are VERY good and a lot of care was clearly put into the game.

"Vampire Survivors with Less Visual Noise" Karate Survivor is "Vampie Survivors"-like but with a far greater focus on positioning and exploiting the map over your character build. More importantly for those who find Suvivor-likes too visually noisy during mid/end game, there is significantly less overlapping visual stimulai. This might be a turn-off for some survivor fans since there's a lot less "how ridiculous can I make this build". Having only played one other survivor game I can't speak as to how difficult it is compared to other survivor games, but I didn't find it all that hard -- but it is fun. Like other suvivor games you're tasked with positioning and build while the actual attacking is done automatically, and you start off with just a single basic attack that eventually scales into something that can cut through swarms of enemies. Unlike other survivor games, there's a lot of environmental manipulation in Karate Survivor. Typically in video games, obstacles traps and hazards are something for the player to avoid but in Karate Survivor they're your allies. You're immune, and instead you trigger them to take out groups of foes at a distance as for the most part you're restricted to short range attacks. The first half of any stage is all about manipulating the mobs into blundering into various traps or finding weapons while you try to build up your attack combo. Once it's ready, it's about getting the enemies into choke points and avoiding the weapons you once relied on as your combo will be far more powerful. Basically if you like rapid-levelling dopamine from Survivors but find them overwhelming to look at, this one's probably for you. It looks great, sounds fine, and plays well despite having less characters and options and the price is right. The Good ======== - Bright, well animated pixel art - Decent sound tracks -- it's a gerenic 80's synth but it works. - Less visual noise - Environmental manipulation adds a complexity missing from other Survivor games. - Little comedic touches such as using bread, a squeaky hammer, ladder or plastic flamingo as improvised weapons and the "om nom nom" when you eat noodles. The Bad ======= - The build system is far simplier than other Suvivor games -- there's not really any synergies to exploit, it's just a matter of picking the best option out of what you're given. - Only a single character to play, although he has 3 distinct styles. - Weapons don't scale well at all, making them a liability if you pick them up by accident at mid game. - The hot spots for the environment are janky -- some having deceptively wide range that will force you to do certain actions without any protection, while others don't seem to kick in because you were in the middle of an auto-attack.

I had fun with it, still haven't unlocked the shuriken but c'mon, 5k kills with super weapons when i got everything else unlocked feels like a pointless grind tbh. for $2.49 i got my moneys worth at least and was entertained, also the soundtrack is gravy which i appreciate it.

This is a fun survivors-like, Using Kung fu instead of magic. Is it as deep as something like vampire survivors? No, but it's a fun little game. Wait for a sale, because you can 100% it in about 8 hours. Cheers

A good game of this type, unique melee mechanics. Fun combat and nice variety in stages. A lot of the basic mechanics are locked away behind tasks, seems an ungraceful to stretch out the replayability. tons more fun after unlocks.

as cool of a game as this should be, it fails at being a bullet heaven AND a roguelite. The builds you can make are piss poor and it just feels like some mechanics that you can "unlock" should be part of the game from the beginning. Hitboxes force you to plan out when and where you should be when you attack, which is totally fine, but with a massively long cooldown, enemies building into the dozens only 2 minutes on the map, and a large array of random objects that block your path and make out maneuvering enemies borderline impossible, its just not fun early game and thus not worth your time if you're into bullet heavens. I've seen reviews that state it ramps up much later, but after only unlocking the vault over objects on my third ever game, I just wanna go back to stomping enemies with cool and creative abilities in megabonk lol

When i 1st saw it, i just had to try it for myselfs. Simply bc it looked like so much fun. 80s jackie chan action mixed with a bit of VS, some double dragon and co. vibes etc. Not sure wether or not certain card based games are a valid example too. Anyways. I got the demo, and it was pretty much what i was hoping for. 2 thumbs up for having a demo in the 1st place. Sure, its easier than with lets say a 100+GB title, but still much appreciated. The main feature aside from the visuals and sound is basically being able to chain different attacks (cards) that you can pick on your level ups into powerful combos. The animations are quite nice, the overall graphics too, the sound is mostly fine aswell. So basically what you see and hear at first is perfectly enjoyable. If you are looking for a fun little survivors like in a setting like this, give it a try. BUT It also lacks so many things i wish it had, its making me sad. I was honestly expecting certain things such as at least a few more or less genre specific options. But they are all completely missing. You cant even rebind your keys. A bit more here and there wouldve given it a lot more replay value and at least some sense of long time motivation too. -More characters just being one of the most obvious things. -More levels are another one that you will wish for in no time. -Id also like a way to toggle the music and other more or less simple features. -I felt a bit too weak and too much on the run during the early game. Wish you would feel just a tad stronger. I mean thats what "these games" are all about, unless i got something wrong. As it is, you want to use weapons early, and avoid them like the plague later on. -The combo system as much as i like this approach of chaining seperate things is far too limited. The moment you unlock sequences by chaining cards with lets say #1-6 together was a wow moment for me for about 1 minute. And then i figured that this is just limiting me into a handful of "builds" and im now forced to hope for good rng unless i want to make a choice in between restarting, or going on with an undesirable setup. Check out "Bio Prototype" Thats how you chain and alter things in a nutshell in comparsion. -How do i reset my spent points? Or why cant I do that? -How can i look at my characters current stats while im in the upgrades selection screen? Genre typical issue that i really can not stand at all. I want to be able to ALWAYS check them. Gimme those files, ill ad id myself within 5 minutes, then send it back to you for a virus scan and implementation. Except the game is already abandoned... -Where can i see the unlock section during a run? Again, am i supposed to remember all of these? This is another standard thingy for the genre. And last but not least -How can i drop or throw weapons i accidentally pick up? I run around cleaning most of the screen in 1 attack combo chain thingy. I pick up a weapon by accident, and have to run like a fugitive to save that life i live. This is pretty much what everyone is complaining about, and i cba to go into detail, but this is simply bad game design. And it couldve been avoided with zero budget, manpower or time invested. I would still say that its a somewhat fair deal especially if you get it on sale. You will enjoy it for a few hours, until everything is unlocked. Then possibly a quick game once in a while due to lack of more things to do. And thats already more than renting a VHS (for often enough 2 nights bc you couldnt return it the same evening you watched it) usually got you. Someone should really pick up this idea, and make something more than an arcade machine like title out of it.

Pros -Unique combat for a survivor like -Challenging at the start (this may be a con for some players) -Plenty of unlocks to work towards -Superb animations -Appealing visuals -Satisfying kills -Great music and sound design -Jackie Chan style nostalgia -On sale for $2.49 Cons Balance issues (details below) The only issue with the game is its balancing. I was able to cruise through every difficulty without dying once after unlocking a powerful mechanic called 'Sequence.' I'd suggest the developer to rebalance the start of the game to be a bit easier as I think a lot of players will probably give up on the game before you go super sayin mode with the Sequence unlock. (maybe having the sequence unlock appear much earlier would be an easy fix) Bosses quickly lose their impact and become pushovers, often dying within seconds without requiring any movement or strategy from the player. Environmental damage and weapons are heavily outclassed by move sequences, discouraging interaction because they offer no meaningful advantage and you find yourself wanting to avoid them. There is also no alternative to how you interact with the weapons. Getting stuck with a weapon you have no way of discarding can be annoying. The upgrade menu could use a bit of an overhaul/extension. Some of the upgrades just seem minimal for the upgrade cost and have backwards scaling in some cases(more expensive and less improvement). Other than some balancing and some QOL improvements, it's a solid game for $2.49 and it took me about 8 hours to clear through all difficulties. Some of the unlocks require more time and there is an endless mode which can be pretty fun.
