Controller support mapping SUCKS to say the least. Why is the sprint and dodge button the same face button and WHY isn't there a shoulder or joystick option for it. Frankly for the 30 mins I tried, there seems to be no discernable way to map the sprint option at all which is whack, ALSO the lighting in the dense forest areas looked AWFUL, STOP. MAKING. DLC. an polish your game.

Have always loved the combat feels more real than most games i have played even those that claim to be smart A.I npcs. I have found that most the work done in game is setting it up to be even better for the future and is already shown to be friendly people in the groups. I believe the lore is really different and the gameplay pulls you in. Games that have 1 person can do 1000 things to beat the game is very unrealistic. Soulmask really nails it with pulling you into finding the right tribe for any mission or crafting setup.

Dear readers, I know that everything we write on the internet is individual, and that some people like vanilla while others like chocolate, and then we can argue until tomorrow about which one is better. But I would like to share my personal experience with Soulmask. I have played the game for almost 700 hours now, and I have not enjoyed a game this much in a very long time, and I am 35 years old. If someone asked me what I do not like about the game, I would not be able to give them an answer. I am someone who loves civilizations, someone who enjoys history, and someone who loves survival games. From the way combat works, to every detail and complex system this game offers, I absolutely love everything. I could not recommend it more. I hope everyone who is considering it gives it a try, because I want the development of this game to continue, and I want them to have the financial support to do so. I wish all of you an amazing experience, and watch out for the great jungle!

Game is early access and they say Golden Legened is a free DLC. When it is in early access and golden legend is put it, doesn't that mean it is not a dlc, but just an addition to the base game? My understanding is that DLC is when the game has been released and then new content is added. Using marketing psycology to make it seem like they are doing you a favor slapping on that free DLC tag, which brings me to the next point. They announce a new DLC when not even the game has been officially released, launching along side the release of the game? Would explaine why the game plays the way it does. There are better survival games out there. Save your money.

I'm giving this a negative rating for the time being. It needs to be better optimized for single player, since it is billed as a game that can be played solo, multiplayer, and/or coop. Overall, it's a great game, but they've completely neglected the solo experience. Not everyone wants MMO slop. I am aware that I can respec to hack around the limitations imposed by the game being optimized for multiplayer. That is not a solution... that's bad design, and it's not an excuse for poorly executing the solo experience.

TL;dr -> game is needlessly convoluted and obtuse game mechanics really bring it down a lot. Bad building system, there are WAY too many intermediate steps for basic crafting, and the combat and animations are "clunky" at best. 1) the character creation is ... atrocious. Its an unreal 4 engine game; it should have more than 4 options for hair color. 2) the tutorial images are literally in Chinese; which is kind of wild to see on a localized version 3) the UI is very cluttered and clunky. 4) there are *way way way way* too many intermediary steps in crafting. This isnt satisfactory or factorio. I have thousands of hours in Ark and Conan Exiles; which should be more analogous. There are way too many byproducts of things that have needless complexity. 5) the gameplay is clunky like old Ark, which is literally a decade old. The animations are poor and the combat is awful 6) there is no meaningful balance to stats and combat. For example, in combat, you can choose to swing 1 time for 15% of your stamina, or do a multi attack that literally hits 7 times for 40% of your stamina. Theres quite literally no reason to use a normal attack lol. Then with the spear, it has a throw and pull back mechanic (think scorpion from mortal kombat!)... but it doesnt give the thing you hit any animation recoil, you just pull them and they can immediately hit you??? 7) the build system is archaic and poorly implemented. its somehow worse than old Ark early access. To summarize; the game is full of what I perceive as feature-creep. There are so many systems and sub-systems; making simple tasks needlessly complex for the sake of perceived "Depth"; when in reality its just obtuse and creates pointless barriers and time gates. Conan Exiles and Ark are both superior versions of this game. Then on top of that they have the audacity to try and release a paid DLC concurrently with their game thats STILL IN EARLY ACCESS?? The ideas and gameplay loop could be solid; but theres no point in paying for a "could be".

Releasing a DLC when it goes 1.0 is a whole new level of early access greed. Regret purchasing this when it first dropped as it was a mid game but figured it could just cook a while. Now with seeing this, I wish I could just take my money back as they don't deserve it.

Soulmask is a good looking game mired by the most bafflingly stupid design decisions possible which actively destroy what enjoyment there is to be found here. For example, loading a save removes all positive buffs (and only the positive ones), ungroups your party, and respawns all enemies. So saving before a boss fight will result in you appearing without any bonuses, surrounded by all the enemies you killed, while your NPC companions stand around watching because they are no longer in your party. Not that you would want to go after bosses as the reward spawn rate actively discourages you from doing so. Take for example barracks, the unique loot in barracks are blueprints, paints, and fabrics needed to craft tribal armor. However, assuming you can even get the blueprints to spawn, fabrics only spawn in at a rate of 0-3 per run. Any set of armor is going to take 11 pieces. These armors are just normal gear with a paint job and minor stat change. They still degrade at the same rate and have the same limited number of repairs as normal armor, making the 6+ boss runs required to make these disposable cosmetics utterly not worth it. And that's assuming the RNG gifts you with the ability to make them in the first place. When the game says recruiting tribesmen "May" unlock armor blueprints, hairstyles, tattoos, tattoo colors, etc. they mean "May." You could recruit a dozen tribesmen and never unlock something as basic as the color green. And when even at max upgrades the game limits you to 18 tribesmen, (a process that takes 20-30 real world minutes) there's a good chance you will never unlock all the cosmetics you want. That's not getting into the resource collection, (most vital crops like cotton take 2+ real world hours before you can harvest), or enemy respawn rates being so ludicrously high that killed enemies can respawn mid boss fight meaning you often have to reclear dungeons while you are in them. Overall, Soulmask is designed to inflate playtime more than most MMOs.
