Sooo, I came here to get scared, not depressed. And where is mouthwashing? But still, for me it’s a 10/10 game. A great and sad story with real life situations, so in some places it hits really hard. It has some great music. The game is really short though, so it’s better to buy it on sale.
A beautifully crafted discomfort.
The game feels truly unique and well executed, but it's hard to call it a masterpiece when you look beyond the visuals. Pros:

Atmosphere. The strongest part. The PS1-style grime and sound design are genuinely uncomfortable and effective. As an 'experience', it stays with you long after the credits roll.
Body horror and discomfort. It's very good at making you feel uneasy. It doesn't rely on cheap jumpscares. Instead, it uses disturbing imagery and the 'physicality' of its characters to get under your skin.
Effective pacing. The chaotic jumps between timelines are clever, keeping the player's attention by contrasting the crew's past with their absolute downfall.
Cons:

Mechanical shallowness. It's mostly just walking hallways, talking, and fetching items. There is zero player agency — you just follow the script. Using door codes is about as complex as it gets.
Weak character logic. Jimmy's motivations are poorly explained. He feels more like a plot tool than a real person. His actions don't feel organic, and the game doesn't give you enough background to understand why he does what he does.
Lack of answers. The story relies too much on shock value and surrealism instead of proper exposition. It leaves too many natural questions unanswered, making the narrative feel hollow when it aims for depth.
Verdict: It's a striking art project that's worth checking out for the style alone, but don't expect a well-reasoned story. Still, the vibe, the atmosphere, and the visuals are strong enough to carry this beautiful and messy shell of a game.

This is a fantastic game, but it only takes like 3 hours to play for a $13 game, so catch it on sale.

A short, but visceral experience that kept my stomach churning, heart racing, and brain melting. The narrative shows a lot but still leaves a lot unsaid to keep theories and fan discussions curious and lively. An excellent example of both feel-bad cinema and psychological horror.

100% Achievement Review: A quick review based on my experience completing all the (available) achievements. Title: Mouthwashing Summary: Atmospheric horror game Personal notes: Mouthwashing is a short psychological horror game surrounding the five crew members of the Tulpar, a space freight company tasked with space deliveries. It presents itself as quiet and restrained, but slowly reveals something far more uncomfortable as you piece together whats really going on. I really enjoyed my time with this game and recommend to play through it blind for your first time as it really is a unique experience. The art direction is unique and grimy with low detail and muted colors to create a creepy style. The sound design is subtle but well placed, with heavy emphasis on silence and subtle sounds which kept me on edge most of the way through. Gameplay wise, this game is very simple and most would call it a walking sim but I feel like they did it very well as to showcase the story itself. I think this because the story is where mouthwashing really shines. The slow unravel of many deep themes in this story is something else indeed. The more you pay attention the darker it gets and I love when games do that. My main complaint would be with the length, it is quite short and left me wanting more. I was confused with the story to begin but putting it together is part of the charm personally. Achievement wise this game is quite easy, just pretty specific and out of the way, I barely had any when I finished my first play-through. I listed the ones I had difficulty with below and would most likely recommend a guide if you want to hunt this one. All things considered, Mouthwash is a unsettling experience that stands out because of how restrained it is. It’s not a game for everyone, but if you enjoy narrative based horror that values atmosphere and implication over jump scares. I would recommend it, especially at it's price. Time it took to complete: 4hrs Most difficult achievement(s): - Friendly Introduction (Find Curly hiding next to the TV) - Trickshot (Shoot Swansea in the graveyard right after spinning 360 degrees) - Any% Glitched (Take the Mouthwash bottle from Polle within 35 seconds of starting Chapter 14) Difficulty rating: ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ 4/10 Overall rating: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ 7/10

Didn't know anything about that game before playing it, outside of people losing their shit about a nendoroid Really cool story with great characters despite how short it is Very confusing by moment too (It probalby makes more sense on a second playthrough), but really made me feel like I wanted to get the fuck out of there as much as the characters

I got it because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I recommend it but on sale, and with some management of expectations. There are some types of horror games I personally do not like and this is one of them unfortunately. And I cannot explain why without spoilers. If you are drawn to horror games with depraved themes then it may be worth checking out. I'm terms of gameplay, it is a horror walking sim with a decently constructed narrative. It doesn't use jumpscares but instead uses creative sounds and atmosphere to make you feel dread. That said, the experience feels quite short for its price.

I wanted Mouthwashing to be one of those rare experiences that feels fresh and meaningful, especially given the hype around its artistic ambition. Visually and sonically, there are moments that catch your eye: some interesting art direction, unsettling soundscapes, and a few sequences that genuinely build atmosphere. Those elements show that the developers can craft something distinctive. Unfortunately, the experience overall doesn’t live up to those flashes of promise. The storytelling leans heavily on recycled symbolism that feels more like decorative noise than insightful commentary. Instead of weaving narrative weight into its visuals or themes, the game often serves up pretentious imagery that tries to look meaningful without actually saying anything coherent. It’s the kind of symbolism that seems designed to impress people who want to feel “deep,” but when you strip away the surface, it ends up feeling hollow and unearned. The gameplay suffers similarly. Repetitive objectives and bland task loops dilute any sense of engagement, leaving you bouncing from scene to scene without meaningful progression. What should have been compelling tension becomes a series of empty fetch quests, punctuated by moments that try too hard to evoke gravitas but fall flat. What’s made this even more noticeable is the community reaction. A surprising amount of discourse revolves around fetishized headcanons and fan obsessions that have nothing to do with substantive critique of the game's design. When the loudest voices celebrate the game for the weirdest personal fixations rather than its actual mechanics or narrative structure, it skews perception away from honest analysis. Passion is fine, but when it’s rooted in bizarre attachments or surface-level theatrics, it makes it harder to talk about the real flaws. In the end, Mouthwashin tries to be bold, but too often it feels like a shallow collage of shocks and stylized nonsense rather than a thoughtful horror experience. There are interesting pieces here, but they lack the coherence and mechanical weight needed to make the whole feel worthwhile.
