A charming adventure in which you progress by solving puzzles, with very light platforming in a couple of spots. The puzzles are good, the mechanics varied, and the art great, so the basics are covered, along with most options you should need for comfort. Character movement is unpolished (sticky feet, invisible walls, need to move away and re-approach to be able to repeat an interaction...,) but somehow it fits the puppet show style and is barely bothersome. Animations and effects add plenty to the natural charm (falls, light bubbles, and many more.) A couple of warnings/advice: - Pick the highest texture quality in the options. At 1 rank below max by default, I couldn't see the first clue in a picture. - Select the highest resolution you can afford, otherwise some texts can be truncated, partially out of screen. - The last section, the castle, becomes glitchy. Following some room transitions, walls were not rendered and I fell through the absent floor into softlocked darkness; multiple times. If that happens to you, quit the game entirely and relaunch. There was no loss, as it always happened right on the newest checkpoint. The one feature that is weak is the classically unsafe, and severely limiting, single-slot auto-save only. The one feature that is truly missing is a chapter selector. Particularly so when finding collectibles is a pure game of chance. Going left before right at a crossing can transfer you to the next section, with no ability to go back and explore the right path. I'n not replaying the entire thing for a few missed pictures. Despite the above, I still give a warm recommendation; Sowon is unequivocally enjoyable.

Pros - Great art-style - Nice music - Interesting world and strange characters - Engaging puzzle design. - Controls fine with an xbox controller. Cons - Although the game is arguably pretty, it can be difficult to see certain items - Very short - Its all a bit to abstract for my liking. I believe its one of those games where your meant to come up with your own story. - Some really bad optimization or memory leak in the final chapter. My frame-rate was bouncing all over the place. In one second it was 120fps and then less then 30fps in the next with not much happening on screen to explain it. Very choppy. Overall its gets a recommendation but only because I bought it on sale so it was good value in that sense.

The art style is really cute, unfortunately the game has a ton of problems and bugs. Several puzzles were almost impossible to finish due to wonky controls and horrible response. Tried switching to keyboard and problems still persisted. Got stuck on a puzzle simply because the character would not climb stairs no matter what I tried, due to this I cannot finish the game. Do not recommend unless developer fixes the many issues and bugs that plague this game.

Quick review: I was actually offered a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program, but I turned it down because I only do VR reviews. However, I absolutely loved the art style so I decided to go ahead and buy this game. The aesthetic reminds me so much of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. So far I'm really enjoying this little puzzle adventure game. The puzzles haven't been difficult so far, but it's definitely been a crazy game where I never know what to expect next. I like to support Indie devs and this is a solo dev who made this game for his daughter Sowon. Lovely all around. It's kind of sad that it only has one other review though. I hope more people find this little charming gem of a game, especially for Halloween.
