Really good. The gameplay is like an amped up version of Into the Breach but with loads of flashy combo mechanics that feel really good to pull off, and without feeling at all cerebrally heavy to plan out your ordering. All the bosses are interesting encounters in their own way. The music is great too. Definitely worth picking this one up if you are looking for a fresh feeling roguelike deck-builder.

this game is FUN. despite only playing for 4 hours at the time of the review, I can already see how much potential this game has for combos and strategy. I absolutely adore the art, and appreciate the little bits of story. gameplay just clicks, once you get something going it feels ELATING. definitely pick this game up, you won't regret it.

This is a top-tier rogue-like/lite game. The mashup of cards and tactics works flawlessly. There are great item and card interactions. And, I think most importantly, there is that knife's edge balance of being very challenging, and very "breakable." You will lose. Then you will break the game. Then you will break the game and still lose because you messed up. The best of the best roguelikes have this. Slay the Spire. FTL. Binding of Isaac. Hades. Now Star Vaders.

Instantly addicting; I haven't felt a roguelike with this much pick-up-and-play potential since FTL. It's less about the damage race and more about positional management. Getting to the right places and setting your attacks up just right to sweep out a crowd, or nail a pesky backliner. Setting up your deck with that in mind is a ton of fun, and a surprisingly great soundtrack rounds out the experience. Absolutely worth picking up on sale, and honestly maybe even at full price, if you're really feeling it.

Absolutely phenomenal game that is definitely deserving of its high reviews. Every part of this game feels incredibly sophisticated and well executed. The game is thought-provoking and puzzle-like but manages to keep it snappy. The art and Ui are vibrant and poppy yet far from overwhelming. The OST is incredible. The bosses are incredibly satisfying to beat. Where the game shines the most for me is in the playable characters. Each mech has its own set of interesting mechanics that are further modified by their pilot. Pilots with the same mech feel familiar yet properly unique in how they interact with their cards. The majority of the pilots have felt incredibly fun to play and rewarding to learn. I highly recommend this game for all deckbuilder enthusiasts. This game has the sauce.

One of the most effective games at making you feel like a genius. The game's health system (replaced with a "Doom" counter) completely flips the "don't get hit" mentality in 99% of games, resulting in a nearly pure offensive playstyle, regardless of mech or pilot. Every level feels simultaneously overwhelming, but completely manageable. And weirdly one of the few, if only, deckbuilders that can be played in a near flowstate. The mech/pilot/artifact synergies just make sense.

This is a very good game with an excellent user experience. While I've yet to unlock writing, what I've seen so far with different pilots and the two mechs, they've managed to make them play and feel different. I was initially skeptical, expecting to be frustrated by the grid-based tactics and the difficulty of each mission. I kept having this feeling that the next mission was going to be the one that would make me stop playing and refund the game. That never happened and I kept wanting to play more. Sure, there's been tough missions and failures but it hasn't felt hopelessly impossible or overwhelming like I've experienced in some games.

This is the peak of roguelike deckbuilders. The game is so well-made that I think it's a must-play. There are so many QoL features that make this game more pleasant to play than most deckbuilders, and it doesn't usually feel like you lost to pure bad luck. Prepare to be addicted.

Kinda mind-boggling that this game has as few reviews as it does considering its production value and variety. I'm just getting started with it but it definitely feels like an *Overwhelmingly Positive (21,205)* kinda game

Don't feel overwhelmed by the art style and busy game-trailers (which I don't think do the game justice) This is a must buy for any Roguelike fan. At the beginning of the 2025, I found an article online that listed the top 20 highest review-rated Roguelike games on Steam. Balatro came 2nd place, with this game in 1st - which is some feat as i'd personally put 150 happy hours into Balatro as my game of the year. I'd never heard of Starvaders and decided to see what all the fuss is about. My word. What a game! I'm in my thirties now, I like to "think" when I play my games, but I also don't want things to get too hard in the evenings once i've completed a long work shift and want to unwind. This game's final difficulty introduces modifiers, so as the game scales in difficulty, it actually gets wackier, unpredictable and more fun - which is an insane motion to me, but one I accept graciously with open arms! Rewards get better, gameplay looks flashier, and you pull off some awesome combos - and I don't feel that awful "sweaty" feeling where you feel like you're on overdrive all the time. It can be a really chill game. It's centred around fun, and as stupid as it sounds not a lot of games are doing that nowadays. Others are all about the grind. The game is, admittedly, an ADHD-ers dream. A LOT is going on and the game looks a lot more daunting than it is at first glance. Visually, the game is very "loud" with high colour saturation and animations that complement a flashy sort of anime/transformers combo art style. It's like a futuristic Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Early on, I found that I could only play for an hour or so without feeling like my monitor was giving me a headache, but this was probably just "Unc problems" after a long day. Think PowerPuff Girls on crack cocaine with rockets flying everywhere. Eventually, you get used to it once you understand the HUD and what you're supposed to be doing. Also, no boss seems horrific to play against. Each can be challenging but I kind of relish playing against each of them randomly, rather than feeling like a certain boss is the end of my run no matter what I do. With 15-20 hours into the game, I thought i'd uncovered most of the unlockables, but discovered that i'd found 150 with over 500 total to find! The game works superbly on Steam Deck too, which is a bonus. A game I hope to put many more hours into and to be honest, as far as Roguelikes go this has got a lot of depth. The story is a little cheesy so don't come here for that, but the gameplay loop, content, and fun factor are all excellent.
