Fairly simplistic space 4X, which could have used couple more patches due to being buggy and unbalanced. It's also dead and thus not recommended anymore.
Overall I still like it more than its sequel, there's a kind of simple elegance to its design, style and worldbuilding. More show-don't-tell, instead of going full retard like ES2 did.

Aged poorly, with no option for windowed fullscreen and plays poorly with other apps. It feels very dated just opening it up and starting a new game. You might enjoy it but it's exceptionally niche now.

This recommendation is kind of late, especially in light of the fact that Endless Space 2 effectively made this game obsolete... but it is still a really solid game that I've been playing again with someone who doesn't have the second game. So, you know, if you haven't played the second game and want to try them in order, this game gets very, very affordable during sales... wink wink.
