Kinda ok, but hard to recommend. Cool art style, but the gameplay is just a bit too bland and repetitive. It feels like instead of innovating on the gameplay or adding quality of life stuff, the team is just re-skinning and repackaging the same thing. Do check out some of the earlier games though. Two Crowns is held in particularly high regard.

I love the kingdoms franchise, and i don't feel like i wasted my money. But, easily, this is hands down the worst kingdoms game they've made. It really kills any replayability. It lacks some of the fundamental variability the other titles have. You play though, you win. and... that's it. There no draw back to try to win in one life or beat the challenges. This game feels more like a DLC. And, at $12, I think they priced it appropriately. Mostly, it should really be like $8.99, and it should be titled as a "stand-alone DLC", so it's treated as it's own adventure. The trouble comes in thinking that this is its own game that will offer what the base games did. It doesn't. It's a stand alone DLC. I still enjoyed it but if you're new to the series, get 2 crowns. Do not start with this one.

Just beat it and honestly. Disappointed. Only lasted 4.6 hours and was taking my time. I love the idea of this and what they were going for but it just felt very hollow compared to two crowns and especially the norse dlc. Really only recommend if you really want more kingdom but I honestly just didn't have fun and I love the series. The pros: the look is awesome and the mounts were creative and some made me laugh. It was a good attempt at a story, I wouldn't mind them doing a sci Fi faction for kingdom two crowns after the laser stuff in this. Also liked the dumpster mechanic for assaulting. No idea what the point of knights(kids with shields) are supposed to do in this. Negatives: the story felt like a lot was missing. Like could of been way more than 4 chapters and done more with it. Just felt like, that's it? (Should of been twice the length at least and more objectives) The visuals while amazing are super cluttered and it's almost impossible at times to tell which kids are recruited and waiting for weapons and which you need to give a coin for. Just felt very inconsistent for some reason. The jobs were great but honestly confusing on who actually would do the jobs. Most of the mounts honestly felt beyond useless until the end of the 3rd chapter. Loved the ideas but just didn't feel rewarding. The game is honestly to linear and lacks any modes other than the super short story. Just have zero desire to reply it again. I hate being so negative but wanted to say this because I regret this purchase and had been excited for over a year to play this. Just felt like they went crazy with style and then remembered after to attach the gameplay.

Let me first start by saying I love the Kingdom Series as a whole. From the retro aesthetics to the modern "8 bit" sound tracks. I've played every iteration steam has to offer and enjoyed them all due to the difficulty, general mood of the games and non linear game play of the islands. Unfortunately for a veteran player this has little to offer. The aesthetics are nice as always and the soundtrack does get going on occasion but beyond that and the general nostalgia the occasional Easter egg provides, this game wasn't worth my time. I beat it on hard in just under 11 hours with very little effort and really taking my time. I only died once due to some wonky mechanics, which isn't a big deal and just happens with these games sometimes. Not only was this game extremely linear in comparison to the others it also felt like less new content than the actual expansions for Kingdom Two Crowns. I'm really not sure how this was made into a standalone game. Maybe they didn't want to have 5 styles with only 3 saves which is already an issue. Maybe they will add more content and build upon this later on. Or maybe, and I hate to believe it, this really was a new paint less substance cash grab. I understand the nature of videos games is to make money but I do believe providing something unique and fulfilling succeeds at satisfying the player and word of mouth making the developer more money. I'll continue to support the Devs on this series and despite feeling this one was a let down I've still gotten more than my money's worth from their previous titles but I really hope this beautiful to look at no substance training wheels version of Kingdom doesn't set the trend for content to come.

I've played the entire Kingdom serious, and it's accurate to say that Kingdom Eighties is a let down. They spent to much times on the story for the gameplay to be subpar. You would think there would be more features in the modern version of Kingdom, but it's a major let down. Usually when developers put out a subpar sequel to a game it signals the end of the games going forward or a sign of lose in quality of the gameplay as the series continues. This doesn't get me excited for the future of the Kingdom series, if there is one. All the other Kingdoms were amazing and fun to complete, but Kingdom Eighties is a sad let down.

The game is a big step backwards. Two Crones was a masterpiece, but this game is just okay. In addition, the person who came up with the idea of removing the coop mode should be fired.

So I think there's a lot of good criticism being put out there for why this version of the game might not be for you, like the lack of multiplayer. Personally, that's not a deal breaker for me, but I want it for the people who were engaged with multiplayer in Two Crowns. I really love the cosy experience of the Kingdom series, and I feel that very profoundly in this iteration. I love the vibe of four teens leading the charge, recruiting kids who are just so small and precious. Like.. look at them. They're so small. The construction worker kids remind me of the platelets from Cells at Work! and I must protect them at all costs. I've always really loved the simplicity of Kingdoms, and I think this 80's theme is very welcome alongside the others. I know I definitely don't speak for everyone, but the vibe is enough for me. It has been from the beginning.

In short: 4 hours taking it VERY slow and already completed. Utterly disappointing and cheap re-skin with 0 replay-ability. - If you don't have Kingdom Two Crowns, definitely buy that one and have a much much better experience and feel like its totally worth your money. You can also enjoy playing with a friend which is a feature missing in this one. - If you have Kingdom Two Crowns don't even bother. The game is very short and feels like a cheap cash grab. Graphics are splattered all over the place making it actually hard to see what you're doing, never mind the dumb story that you can easily miss out on. This game feels like they had an intern who was bored and re-skinned the first game in the series missing the better features of the later games. It's also extremely short and to easy with no replay-ability at all. The game after this one will have to be VERY GOOD and return to form or else this developer will be something to forget. Such a shame after the hundreds of fun hours my wife and I had playing every DLC and challenge on the hardest difficulty in Two Crowns. TL;DR: Don't bother with this "game" and save your money for something better.

really short and lacks the content, replay ability, and overall game play that all the other games had, wish I could recommend but there is no world were this serves to live up to the kingdom name, would have preferred if they worked more diligently on the games already released or the 4th traditional game in the series. For games that are infinitely repayable I would appreciate a focus on content than story, even so the story was very cookie cutter and disappointing at best and almost a joke at its best, this whole game seems like a half-hearted leap into new grounds and while I appreciate the effort none of them hit there marks and it ended up sacrificing a lot of what made kingdom so great. I look forward to seeing future releases but besides the amazing art and aesthetics this was a miss for me,

Good game if you've never played Kingdom before. Boring and basic if you have. Imho, Eighties is basically an episodic and linear story that has the gameplay of a stripped down, nearly naked Kingdom game. I'm recommending it because the game somewhat accomplishes what it advertised. I'm assuming most of us who are buying this are probably Kingdom fans though; if you are, change and reduce your expectations to have an enjoyable experience. As a standalone, Eighties can be an okay purchase if you're looking to play a simple, story-forward game that you can definitely finish in less than 10 hours (in normal mode). Just buy it at a discount lol. It's for you if you enjoy a game with light plot, great aesthetics and soundtrack, and limited gameplay. Also, consider that there's not a lot of replayability. Once you've reached the end and have watched all of the cutscenes, the game is over. There's nothing left to do or explore. And even if you play it again, you don't make any active choices to change the course of the story so its not like you'll unlock a new type of ending. You either defeat the greed or restart at some level. And sure, even though all of the other Kingdom games are like this, the heavy emphasis on the story makes Eighties feel way more concluded and final once you get to the end. For Kingdom fans (especially Two Crowns fans who enjoy the other DLC), like no. There's no easy way to play Eighties and not compare its lack of features to previous iterations. Many of the unique features you'd find in Two Crowns like the pikemen/ninja/fishermen, farm/farmers, and certain structures (war horn, farm/stable, catapult, portals, etc) don't exist in Eighties and there are no good alternatives imo. I assume these reductions are because it doesn't work with the plot. Since the monarch is a teen in the eighties, there's no way you'd have a farmer or banker in your camp alongside the "workers/kids" you recruit (not without creative writing at least). My most critical note is that because there's not a lot to do, I got drowsy twice during my whole playthough and took a nap on both occasions. And to be super nitpicky, I so hate how the mounts move. So annoying to have to move back-and-forth numerous times just because the mount has an extended stop and doesn't fully stop moving once you literally lift your finger off the button. There are a few more nitpicky things but….ugh. Sigh. I really wanted to love it. I don't regret the purchase but I also won't be playing it again. As beautiful as it is, I bought Eighties for interesting new gameplay which it sort of delivered. I didn't buy it just to experience subpar Kingdom gameplay in a new skin. Oh well.
