It is worth noting, in my case, that this game would not run on an AMD RX6600 video card. Well, it runs, but no video. Task Manager says 0% GPU being used, and the screen is blank. I tried everything, and three different levels of drivers. Same result. I removed the RX6600 and went back to my RX580. The game runs beautifully on it.
As stated, these games do not support Steam anything, including game progress: If you have more than one computer, it will not carry progress from one machine to another. Bummer, that.
The game is good looking, has some really different puzzles (with some really different instructions) and a few language quirks (normal for these games). Some situations are illogical: Cop holding a gun on a knife wielding suspect claims we have to do what the suspect says "we have no choice". Why didn't he just pull the trigger? Without using hints, this game would be very difficult. Some details are obscure and easily missed.

Fun game with lots of content but with flaws. HOS were varied and excellent! In regular scenes borderline moon logic was common. Horse dodge puzzle was anti fun and needed keyboard input. A certain explosive gear puzzle was so counter-intuitive it was skipped by nearly all players. This puzzle was horrific. A certain word spelled incorrectly that shows up every time a special item is found is cringe worthy. Still a positive review, but this was close.

Surprisingly, this non-Big FIsh and non-Artifex Mundi hidden object adventure game is of outstanding quality. Domini Games have created something that stands out among the subgenre.
In the first area, I noticed it had several areas that can be clicked which have a fun, non-gameplay effect. The second area had them, too. I thought for sure, they wouldn't be able to keep adding these extra fun effects on objects unrelated to playing the game. And yes, the number and complexity of the doodads does decrease, but there are many of them throughout the game.
What's more consistent are the unusually detailed animations for interactions. I've never see a HOAG with so many nice animations. Considered along with the gorgeous artwork, this is one of the most visually pleasing HOAGs I've played.
Domini Games have made many, many hidden object adventure games. I've acquired more and look forward to trying them.

The first game of the Criminal Archives series, visually beautiful HOG with creative puzzles and hidden objects scenes. You play as a crime reporter who will cover the case of the mysterious Plague Doctor who is committing arsons all around the city. Discover the reason behind all of those burnt houses and catch the murderer, it could be more than one person.

I enjoyed the artwork of this game, the details and color palette set the right atmosphere of the Victorian era. The game is longer than the usual HOG, and you'll have a fast-traveling map to take you from one place to another, where you have to find clues and items to help you in your investigation. The soundtracks are nice, but I've noticed it is sometimes cut off during the game's events.

The puzzles are nicely done; none of them is repeatable, and some of them are unique. I enjoyed the hidden objects scenes; they give you the regular list to find the items, but they also give you riddles, or finding the match, as well as a silhouette of an item to find. There are three types of collectibles. I've noticed a bug where it looks like you've collected the figurine, yet it doesn't show in the collection; I got the achievement nonetheless.

Pros:
+Beautiful visuals and location design.
+Good music. (Cuts off at some of the scenes)
+Well drawn hidden objects scenes. (18 in total)
+Beautiful and helpful journal keeps track of the story.
+Good voice-overs.
+Variety of original puzzles. (18 in total, some of them are difficult)
+Collectables (3 types)
+Bonus chapter
+In-game strategy guide.
Cons:
-No Steam achievements
-Bug in figurine collectible menu (It doesn't show what you've collected but you'll get the in-game achievement)
The visuals are the strong suit of this game. I highly recommend it to HOG lovers or anyone who wants to get into this genre.
