I generally don't like this kind of high-precision platformer game, but Super Cable Boy is one of the few exceptions. The movement is just... really good. There's a lot of abilities for how short this game is, but none of them feel underutilized, and I got to give this game credit for being the only platformer where I actually like to use a swinging thing, in this case a grappling hook ability. I only have two complaints for this game, and they are both pretty minor. One, I feel like the final main cart, voltage, steps on the toes of the triple jump a bit too much. Two, I feel as though the levels in the final area are a bit too long and don't give much time to actually process what you're looking at. But neither of these flaws are dealbreakers. I still thoughly enjoyed this game despite

I really enjoyed the first levels, but quickly it became much more difficult and didn't feel balanced anymore. Also the mechanics didn't feel consistent which made some tight moves just frustrating and it felt random if they would work or not. I lost interest because I got stuck and didn't feel like fighting through would pay off. And the controls felt a bit weird. But the graphics and soundtrack are really nice. I just think it wasn't a good fit for me, but that doesn't make it a bad game. You might enjoy it.

The very first maps are far too easy and don't seem promising, but the game does evolve quickly to meet the bar for gamers that are looking for a challenging platform game involving precision, fast-paced small/quick levels. The cable mechanic allows you to perform what other games offer as “double jumps”, but requiring some level of mastery which increases the difficult. The level design is good and definitely helps to showcase the game mechanics. Most of the levels also offer collectable items that require mastery of the game mechanics to reach them. Casual gamers can complete the game ignoring these items, but they're there for pro gamers who would find the game too easy w/o hard challenges otherwise. There's not only quality level design, but also quantity. So there's plenty of time to master each mechanic. However new mechanics are introduced when your character find “cartridges” (the game term for permanent power-ups). Once power-ups are acquired, new maps become accessible. The power-ups change the mechanics and the levels to make the game feel fresh even in the face of so many levels to play. Old powerups are still useful (and required) for many levels ahead just showing how the developers are very skilled at level design in platforming games. Not only quality, but also quantity. Quantity, but in a way that doesn't getting boring (new mechanics help to keep the game somewhat fresh even with too many levels). Some levels also feature multiple exits allowing access to secret areas that offer even more challenges. I do suggest a gamepad with good analogs to play. Most 2D platforming games only make real use of a D-pad, but this one is different. For aiming the cable at the walls (or aiming flight for one of the power-ups that you unlock), good analogs help. There's some sort of auto-aiming, but good analogs will only help. If you're a really casual game you can change the game speed in the settings to make the game easier (you can choose a speed between 20 to 100% in steps of 10).

Came for a good platformer and stayed for the rice ball collectables which for the first hour or two I was enjoying finding but not long after that the game gets nice and challenging so I knew the rice balls had to be forgotten about. Grinding near the end here now after 6 hours and my left thumb and Nintendo Switch D-pad are about to explode! Good stuff. But had to give up with 7 levels to go. At some point, the grind is just not worth it. Still solid.

This is the best platformer I have played in a while. Starting a little slow paced it emerges to a challenging and more importantly fun experience, which challenges your sharpness. The game manages to get never boring due to the ongoing additions of new skills that you acquire on your journey. What stands out for me personally is how well the game mechanics work. This is true for every skill you get in the game. They are on point. You never get the feeling that it is the game's fault, when you die. This seems to be a simple feat, but I started appreciating it, after I found so many games, where it literally stopped me from playing any further. Even though I'm not that into the artstyle, it is clear. And the music is top notch. I also think that the story could have more depth to it, but yeah, I guess it isn't the main focus anyway. If you are into the genre, there aren't many games that are better than this one. Highly recommended.

Super awesome platformer that's a lot of fun. It's clear a lot of love went into this game and it looks absolutely stunning. Seriously this game deserves more recognition.

Quick Score: 5/5 Notes: Great platformer. Its like if you combined FEZ's aesthetic/style with Super Meat Boy and then also threw in Metroidvania upgrades. Visuals/Audio are great. Only minor complaints are that sometimes the collectibles will hover too close to your character while you are carrying them which makes it difficult to see exactly where you are at times. And the grapple hook is a bit difficult to use precisely, though this doesn't really become a problem until the very final stages. Difficulty wise the games base levels are not that difficult, but going for 100% collectibles is extremely difficult. Some of the final bonus stages are pretty brutal and for sure harder than anything in SMB. Casual players not to worry, the dev has included an assist mode which you can use to get everything if you so choose.

It's a nice and smooth platformer with a charming protagonist. I finished the game in about 5 hours, which had a high density of fun. Though you can get fast through the game (except the last few levels are quite challenging), getting the onigiris are the real challenge and the smooth gameplay made me try over and over again. In return of the unforgiving onigiri challenges, you get a nice and satisfying feeling when finally getting it. It's a game where the end boss actually feels like an end boss!

There's a lot of decent precision platformers out there, but this one is more than that. It really stands out. It plays good, the music is surprisingly good, and the level design is really top notch. Honestly, everything about this game feels really polished and thought-out. It just clicks. Super Cable Boy manages to keep your interest by giving you access to additional abilities every once in a while. You can switch between unlocked abilities at any time in any level, and chain them together. Completely optional collectibles either require precise execution or using your abilities in creative ways (or both). I'd say the main route is just difficult enough for most people, but there's a lot of secret bonus levels for those who want a more extreme experience, and it gets really, really tough. But even when you struggle to complete a level, much like Celeste or other gems, it's (almost) never frustrating, and it's always a blast when you succeed.

This is a awesome jump ’n’ run with nice game mechanics (cable hook, triple jump, and so on) that I can recommend for all ages. As a child of the 80s, I really enjoy the classic look and the great visual effects. Also, the 8-bit style music fits the game play and the genre very well. They should make more indie games like this.
