Didn't want to do this but, for some people movement doesn't work. This means you are stuck in the same place, out of reach of everything. Was hoping there would be a fix coming. Until it does, I would not be able to recommend this game.

10/23/22: UPDATE: If you go in the sunflower field DO NOT pick up the ball. A friend was trying VR for the first time and got a frightening surprise. The ball made a loud noise, lit up and vibrated. Would not be good for dementia patients. UPDATED REVIEW: After the dev published a newer version I took it for a spin. There have been a lot of improvements since the last version. Namely: 1) The disturbing sight of animal eyes and teeth has been replaced by a white screen if a collision is about to occur. There also seems to be some collision work that was done, so good job there. 2) The map is bigger and now includes the sunflower field. Which I promptly got lost in. Do be aware it's a lot of sunflowers and free roam. 3) Music can be toggled off. 4) Most animal animations and sounds changed from what I remember. 5) It's a lot brighter. Overall, it's clear a lot of work was put into it. The watery effect is still an issue, but not all the time. It may be a hardware issue on my end, or Rift's current problem with watery effects suddenly popping up on Rift headsets. The hand clipping is also still an issue. But overall I'd say it's worth a spin, though results may vary depending on headset and PC buffness. I left my two original reviews below **** EDIT: I hate to flip a review from good to bad, and I'll still leave my favorable review up below this, but considering it's targeted at dementia patients here are the biggest issues. 1) All models now have a watery effect to the animations. It looks like I'm viewing them from underwater. 2) You can teleport into the middle of animals. It really needs collision work. Keep in mind the target audience may experience this as real and get frightened. 3) You can see inside the models. OK, that happens without collision detection, but it might be upsetting to people with dementia. There's nothing quite like trying to kiss the wolf model and seeing a pair of floating eyeballs. 4) Hand clipping. I first thought this was to simulate fur, but your hand disappears into the animals. It really is a wonderful idea and a nice first attempt, but this is beta stage. I flipped my recommendation considering the target audience. These are people you may frighten with seeing inside an animal or their hand suddenly not being there, though I fully understand each patient is different. Some laugh and play with those robot animals, some hate them if they hate the real thing (say cats or dogs) and some get frightened and cry if they malfunction. They truly feel the animal is sick or died. I saw these issues before, but I wanted to give a first time dev time to respond or fix things on his own. Few games launch without issues and so on. But there has been a week since launch and no one can seem to find the dev unless you want to buy a hammock or artwork from his website. Original review is below. I'm sorry to have to flip a review, but this game is not ready to launch or be used. I'm not requesting a refund because I'd read elsewhere proceeds will fund research for dementia. Not sure if that is still a thing or not, but in case it is I wish the dev all the best. *** Just wanted to say a quick thank you for such a lovely game. It hit me right in the feels. I don't know what the target audience will make of it, but my parents would have loved something like this. For people on the fence, it's a lovely experience. You can teleport around while "Country Roads" plays in the background. You get all the animals you see and they make cute and appropriate animal sounds when petted. You can also see the water feature, blue sky and sunflower field. I'm an adult woman in her 40s and I was utterly charmed. There something that males you nostalgic as you teleport around petting all the different animals, wild and tame. There's nothing scary or upsetting, just animals to pet and nice music to listen to. The animal models are realistic enough and they don't make any sudden movements. They do stay in place, but for a virtual petting zoo that makes sense. There are also flower arches and butterflies flying about. Also the map isn't too big. I don't know enough about elder care, but what you see in the demo is it. My only suggestions would be it looked a tad dark in some spots on the Oculus Rift, so maybe a way to adjust brightness? Also some animals are taller and if a player is seated or can't kneel to pet maybe a height adjustment. Other than that I enjoyed that I could rotate with the teleport and everything worked smoothly. Overall, there's a lot to see and do, so I'd give it two thumbs up. It would be nice if the sunflowers could be walked through, but I understand the target audience only needs so much and can be overwhelmed with too much to see and do all at once.

Game sucks I wish i never bought it now . Manly because i do not like the way you move around in it , i prefer to move around naturally, and not teleportation all the time .

YES!! Do you have YOUNG KIDS and are always hunting for age appropriate experiences for them?! IF YES, BUY THIS!! So I bought it late last night after my usual combing through the Steam Store and let my 6 yr old son try it out this morning because he was chomping at the bit as soon as I showed it to him. Too often most VR games and experiences are just too difficult for the kids or the interface is too tall and doesn't adjust to their shortness, so I specifically look for games like this where they can easily navigate and interact with the VR realm. I recorded my son and he was laughing hysterically and he got a real kick out of all the animals and ABSOLUTELY LOVED the sound effects and being able to get up close to each animal and get all around them!! He also enjoyed exploring the sunflower field and just looking around. If you guys ever decide to do more with this experience, maybe hide some things in the field that you can collect and bring back and feed the animals and then gain points or coins or trophies or something? My kids are obsessed with winning and earning trophies so it's just a thought that other kids might like that, too. Because I know you developed this for dementia patients, but I'll bet you have a ton of parents buy this for their young kids. ;) Also, I could tell my son was looking to see what he could find....so why not add something for him to find and carry to an animal? I know, way easier said than done, totally just a thought! :) So then our 8 yr old daughter tried it out and she liked it and I bet she would have stayed in there longer if there was a goal or task that you could opt into doing, like maybe feeding the animals or maybe some things like in Viva Pinata. LOL, and then I finally let our 2 yr old daughter check it out and I set it up next to the fox and I sat on the ground so she could sit in my lap and easily be in the right spot to pet the fox, and she looked through the headset and picked up her hands....and freaked out about her hands, LMAO, she said "naughty hands" because I think they weren't hers so it freaked her out. We've had the HTC Vive within 3 days of it coming out 5 years ago and our other two kids did lots of experiences and games when they were tiny like her but they never freaked out like she did. So I put the headset back on to re-check out your hands..... and they look REALLY GOOD! LOL, so I've concluded that she just doesn't like them because they're so different from hers. It's the same way I feel when I see myself as a weird robot or alien avatar in some other games like VR Chat - it freaks me out. So then I finally got a chance to explore around and honestly, it was a pretty cool short experience and the elephant had me laughing out loud because it freaked me out and I thought it was going to knock me over - great job there! And on the others as well! Great VR experience for kids and quick demos for your dinner guests who don't have VR. :) A lot of people aren't "gamers" and they freak out and balk when you try to invite them to try VR, this is a good one to get those people on so they aren't embarrassed or stressed out. Oh, one more thing, Devs, I tried finding you guys on Twitter to help get you some more visibility but I couldn't find you or the game. If you get on there I can help you by posting pics and quick game play video! The kid market in VR is underserved and I'm here to help!!! :)

As of end May 2020, this visit to the farm is really quaint and small children will love it, although the game still requires a lot of work as it's clunky and a bit 'raw', hard to pick up stuff (we have the Valve Index VR), and heavy on the GPU (lots of grey outs after a bit of play). My 6-year-old daughter got frustrated with it (she couldn't feed the horse with the apple and tried for hours), but for £2.09, we're not complaining. It has lots of potential and I hope the game developers continue to work on making this better over time.

I have a Valve Index and this game has a lot of graphics issues. The entire scene is not sharp. Everything looks like its all been smoothed out and not crispy sharp. It felt like you needed glasses to see sharply and so there is a loss of detail. Crouching down to pet the smaller animals or picking something from the ground causes the screen to blank out and you suddenly don't know where you are. The hands go through the animals so you are poking the animals instead of petting them. This needs some more work.

It's okay and it's worth the buy IF you are a huge animal lover. if you are looking for multiple cats its definitelly not the game for you unless you are willing to do it for just the cat it's probably about 15 minutes to get through every animal to pet when you pet them they vibrate but they also make their animal noises you can feed them apples but theres a problem if your holding two apples the movment button doesn't work so you can really only hold one at a time unless you wanna spend a minute to inch your way over to the basket slowly and there is also a bug it may be just me but when i try to close the app sometimes it gets stuck and i have to restart my laptop but overall the game is decent but probably not worth the money.

This game is worth the small price, no DLC nonsense and a lot of fun and relaxation petting all of the animals. I do wish there were more animations for the animals as well as noises, but overall I enjoyed this game a lot!

It's like going back home to the farm where I grew up. Just like I remember it. Better than memories or reality even, like Jamiroquai said, "And now it's virtual insanity, forget your virtual reality" Check it out here: https://youtu.be/I4WTNBn77_g Rate 11/10. VR GOTY 2020.

Experienced on the Oculus Rift
Okay so the truth is this isn't very good. I only paid $2.49 USD so I didn't have high expecations and my low expectations were barely met. You can teleport around the farm, although there are invisible barriers beyond the farm. You can listen to an instrumental Country Roads by John Denver, which is actually the best part of this experience. You can teleport around and pet the different animals. You can turn with the teleport movement (but there is no smooth or snap turning). You hands and head will clip through everything. You will get a grey screen if you get too close to an animal's butt (no joke). They make sounds when you pet them in the right spot. That's all you can do in this game. You can't even pick up objects or water the plants. The animals just stand there and will have some very simple animations and sounds. The farm includes a camel, zebra, and elephant for some reason .... Rate 5/10. I mean it was only $3 and the animals all make a sound. I could see a kid or a very old, senile person enjoying this maybe. Best enjoyed with early onset of dementia.
